I did my own balancer tool and also has the capability to verify the wheel aligment.

Tonight I installed Altrider U-joint and Rear brake master cylinder guards, and lubed the shift lever. Dang thing was drier than a popcorn fart - didn't look like it had ever had a molecule of lube in it of any kind. Shifts smooooth as chicken lips now. Will do rear brake lever next. Got a box full of farkles yet to install. Still waiting on my skid plate and crash bars from T-Rex.20190911_230919.jpg20190911_233611.jpg

Since today is our 10th anniversary, I came home early to pack for the trip to the Brewdog Hotel (multiple shower beers are in my future).

I still have to install the Helibar, the grip skins I wanted, Deftoner's caps in place of the adhoc ones I created while waiting, steel radiator guards instead of the plastic one I made, shorter clutch and brake levers, mod up the ABS disconnect switch, install the slipscreens (winglets), replace the clutch fluid and bleed it, install the speed bleeders (sigh), add the exhaust shield up above the skidplate, re-clamp the LEDs since the current clamps are disintegrating, replace the oil cap with the billet one coming tomorrow, throw the shock sox into my bags, throw the newly arriving dynaplug setup into my bags, and do an oil change.

But I put on a headlight guard! So I got that going for me, which is nice.

Last night I installed my hitemp painted exhaust system, see how it works, I did not like the color when plain so we will see how it works!
This is the way the exhaust pipe end up after painted.

Let us know here how it holds up. Mine is slightly discolored and Ive been thinking about painting it.

Speaking of painting... I painted the Hepco Becker skid plate on my bike. The stock aluminum finish was okay but stood out too much so the other day while in WalMart I picked up a can of Rust Oleum. I went for a short ride afterwards but didn't notice any horsepower gain.:rolleyes:

I was wondering what kind of paint you guys were using. I thought it might be black chimney/Grill paint that’s seriously heat resistant, but I think that stuff is matte if I remember. It’s been awhile since I used some.

I’ll reinstall my OEM skid plate tomorrow. I have had it off since changing fluids. I wanted to be sure there was no dripping. Then I just forgot while buzzing around town.

I need to install this mini air horn. It says plug and play but it seems a bit bigger than the stock meep meep Horn.

Hopefully I’ll find time to do this tomorrow or Monday as we have downpours in the weather forecast.

Now that's the color the exhaust should settle into.

Installed barkbusters and the VPS plastics, also had to replace the T10 parking lights, bit fiddly so replaced them with some 6000k LED, hopefully they will last a while.
Looking at those painted headers, they do look nice, would think about cleaning mine up if I could find them through the mud.

Fwiw, you can get high temp paint in satin finish as well as matte. Colors too, but I don't know how well the colors hold up over time.

Having used a silver high temp (VHT from Duplicolor) to cover up scratches in a cruiser exhaust once, I can tell you that they will last at least a year -- and with covering it in a VHT Gloss coat, it comes out looking almost right on chrome. Since the cruiser got totaled out, no idea how long it might have actually lasted.

Everytime I've painted headers with a rattle can it turned out good for a very short time. Might just be my painting. But they always scratch super easy in my experience. I just painted a zrx1200 headers with VHT. I had it blasted and cured the paint with some heat between coat like they said. Looks great right now with no miles on it. Time will tell.

I prefer to do exhaust stuff with ceramic coatings. Higher temps so no degradation. Ceramics are applied at 500F. Powder coating or paint at a lot lower temps. More $$ on the front end, but it really holds up. Thermal coatings to keep heat in the pipes and going out or polymer coatings to aid in oil lubricity, etc. Great stuff.

I used a lot of these coatings in the past for turbo car work and brake parts. Eliminated over heating and cooking of brake parts and kept heat from the turbo going out the exhaust instead of heat soaking the engine or turbo. Thermal release coatings to bleed heat where you can. Thermal barrier coatings on piston tops and hot side turbo housings as well as exhaust pipes to keep that heat going out the pipe. Even hard coat lubrication on the piston skirts and thermal release under the pistons to allow oil to drop back into the pan and the skirt to slid on the cylinder wall if it hit instead of grind. Every bit counts.
