Replaced plugs and air filter. Had trouble locating the crankcase breather hose to disconnect under the air box. Turns out the dealer mechanic who did my valve check 10k miles ago failed to reconnect it. I will be calling them tomorrow. Any risk of damage?

About 18k mi on the plugs and filter. Plugs looked good, but going to try Iridiums. Air filter could have been worse.

Synched TBs. Couldn't adjust the left enough, so had to adjust the right.

A couple questions:
1) What do you use to remove/replace far right coil bolt? (A wrench takes forever, but socket doesn't clear the frame.)
2) What sealant is appropriate for the coil seals? (I just inspected, cleaned, and reinstalled.)
3) Do you replace airbox rubber gaskets as recommended in the Service Manual?

A little un-filtered air into the engine. Potentially can increase ring and valve wear. I had a tech leave the TB hoses loose on an inline four and I did not notice until the next 26k service. Ring wear and valve train wear resulted in low compression and poor leak down. Essentially killed that engine. Ring wear is not a covered item under the Yamaha YES warranty. I ended up replacing the engine on my dime. I lived in the Pacific NW at the time and rode in rain a lot, which probably added to the problem. Lots of grit, etc.

Pretty normal looking. I recently changed to Iridiums and am very pleased with the results.

Not uncommon to have to adjust the painted screw, (it's sometimes the right, sometimes the left), to get a good sync. Some people back out the painted screw 1/4 to 3/4 from fully in and set the other side to balance with that with good results.

(1) I use a ratcheting box wrench from the front to get to the right side coil bolt.

(2) I haven't done the sealant trick, but silicone RTV will work. Some use non-conducting grease and an extra o-ring.

(3) No. I look at them, but haven't seen them dry and hard. My 109k Gen I Super Ten didn't have dry, hard gaskets there after all those miles in the desert.

3) no

Got around to installing my Madstadt reinforcement brackets. I knew they would do a good job of reducing the vibration and improve the visibility of accessories mounted (ie GPS) but did not realize how much the screen wobbled without them. I feel they have dramatically reduced the turbulence coming off the screen. Very happy with my tall Yamaha touring screen and winglets now!

Replaced the Cyclops Adventure LED bulbs with Hikari Ultra LED Bulbs.

The cyclops bulbs seemed to be getting dim and I already have experience with the Hikari Ultras because I put them in my truck. The install went smoothly and the Hikari Ultras are brighter, with a wider pattern than the Cyclops. Also the build quality on the Hikari ultras is far superior to the Cyclops LEDs. The Cyclops plastic mounting collar actually broke as I removed them. The Hikaris are all metal and feel much more substantial, as well as more precisely made.
Did you have to make any modifications from stock h7 bulbs? Do they fit with stock caps? Which specific Hikari bulbs?

I called the service manager who said they will talk to the tech who did the job to ensure it would not happen again. They added a note to my file to provide a free compression test at my convenience (probably next valve check or plug replacement). He did ask if I saw any dust on the clean side (I didn't) and confirmed I did get the hose connected. I did tell him the catch bulb did have some water mixed with the oil.

Changed the diff oil. Only done about 5k miles since the last change, stuff coming out didn’t look that much dirtier than when it went in.

I’ll leave to 10k miles next time.

Am using fully synthetic :)

Hmmmm, I suppose it depends on what type of riding you engage in.
Lots of highway, then maybe extend oil and filter changes
Off roading a lot, then I would definitely stick to Yamaha's schedule every 6,000 K.
Got extended warranty??
I'm still under the one year warranty, so I'll be changing my oil on time.

suspect Boris is only talking about extending the diff oil changes to every 10k miles, not the oil changes.

I removed my leaking rear shock in anticipation of having it resealed or replaced, and kept on going. Removed the suspension linkage and swingarm to clean and lube the bearings. Question..... Having to remove the exhaust to get the front relay arm bolt out is a PITA, I don't see any reason why the nut couldn't go on the left so the bolt can be removed from the right side, has anyone done this?
Also changing air filter and spark plugs, valve adjust, steering lube and new fork seals.image.jpegimage.jpeg

Over the last few weeks, I've added a custom-fitted heated Corbin seat, Zumo GPS and Sharkskin tank pads. Rode 1100+ miles over the Memorial Day weekend - new seat is great. Their ride-service is amazing - no extra cost, and the craftsman carves it to fit. The fellow who did my seat had worked there 35 years.

Now to do some more trips instead of commuting all the time!

I was planning to install a lowering link kit on my 2018 ES model. I've put the brakes on that because as you mentioned, on must remove the exhaust to remove one of the bolts that secure the links. Not sure why Yamaha did it this way, doesn't look logical to me.
If Yamaha had installed the linkage bolts the other way then there would be no reason to monkey with the exhaust.
I found a new unused lower seat that I will try and hopefully a lower seat will solve my problem. Haven't received the seat yet.
Lowering links might be necessary for some riders, but change links?? = adjust front end = alter or replace side stand = alter or replace centre stand....and if not done properly resulting in a negative change to the dynamics of the bike's riding characteristics.
I'd like to hear from those who have installed lowering links and read their comments
My links will lower the height by 30 mm or 1 1/4 inches. Supplier Lust Racing (U.K.)
I'll likely sell the link kit.
