Took'er out for about 100mi with heated vest on. Haven't had much chance to properly test the Diapason ECU flash because of the snowy roads, but did notice that 6th gear roll-on had noticably more acceleration...felt like I was in fifth. 8) Had to stop to get a stamp in my 'stamp rally' booket. There are 20 places throughout northern Japan to get stamped at. Stayed for awhlie and enjoyed some ginger pork and a strawberry parfait.

[smg id=896]

Got back to the garage just as our persistent winter weather demonstrated another act of defiance.

[smg id=897]

Pulled'er inside of the garage and installed the the Wasp heated grip controller bracket. Great bit of kit!...makes the the controller look like it actually belongs on the bike 8)
The biggest challenge was re-routing the controller wires, but that was more time-consuming than difficult. Oh, and during THIS ride, I STILL couldn't feel an imbalance of heat between L&R OEM grips...just a grunch of heat. Perhaps the few who have an issue haven't properly insulated the left grip from the bar?...doesn't matter how much you paid for the grips; the left grip will be colder if you don't insulate it from the bar...they won't magically insulate thierself. The throttle side is already insulated by virtue of being on the plastic throttle tube.

The nicer heaters I've seen have like twice the windings in the left grip vs the right thus compensating for the heat sink thing.

I went for a ride...needed to get her dirty again, since I haven't really been since I tipped her over and the radiator fan burned out.

Added the Wasp decals. Went for a 300 mile ride including some gravel roads in Eastern PA. Finally got dirty!
No problems with heat from the Leo Vince with the stock muffler guard removed. I will never ride with a passenger and as a driver my leg is nowhere near the pipe. Might be a problem when I mount panniers, but I will deal with that when the time comes.

Early morning. Nice and clean

End of the day. A little dirty. Note how far around the tire is "black". This bike handles!!!! ;)

I was mounting the Yamaha side boxes, but lost a bolt in search of the right security torx and never found the torx I needed. Looks like I will be just getting some regular bolts.

Did about 30 miles of forest road to Stratton Meadows and came home through Deals Gap. The trees are still aren't very green yet at elevation.

This bike really is impressive on and off pavement!

Oh wait, you trailered it home? Umm, ok. Please don't do that again. Sit there, twist that. ;)

Looks great! Ride Report!!! ::017::
Quick ride report post CalSci shorty install.

In short, the buffeting that was causing me major headaches (literally) is all but gone. Yesterday's weather saw the worst buffeting conditions I've ridden in - gusty winds at 25+ MPH. Previously this kind of wind would've seen me with a headache from the drumming on my forehead in an hour. Any time I was over 60MPH indicated it only got worse. The only time the buffeting subsided was in perfectly calm wind conditions, and then I could squeeze out an hour-and-a-half before the headache would start. I'll say again, my teeth literally rattled from the dirty air coming off the stock screen.

That has been settled with the CalSci shorty. The wind blast now hits my shoulders and about mid-visor, but it's much cleaner air , not the drumbeating I was getting before (screen is mounted in the low position). Spent lots of time at 80MPH+ indicated and felt no ill-effects from the wind hitting my helmet. Even tucked in and ran her up to 125MPH+ indicated and all was smooth. As a matter of fact, there were a few times that I looked down and realized I was going 10-15MPH faster than I thought because the air was so much smoother.

In the interest of full disclosure I will probably still get a screen adjuster bracket to tailor the angle for different riding conditions, and add a GPS bracket. But even without it I can ride for hours (just over four yesterday) and enjoy the bike at various speeds and riding conditions. Today promises to be even better as the front that produced the gusty winds has moved on, and the air is still today. If anyone is on the fence about this mod I would say go for it - it has transformed the bike for me.

**EDIT**

I rode today with the calmer winds here, and damn am I a happy camper. It was even better (as expected) - I am officially ready to start farkling like a madman! I had hesitated because the buffeting had me wondering if I could live with the bike. Color me excited about this bike more than ever!

I installed a J&M CB unit so I could have comm with the wife. Trying a 3' Firestick this time instead of the J&M 4'. Ditched the ground wire off the antenna and wired the power/ground from the PC-8 aux fuse block, (Eastern Beaver). Works better than it did on the FJR and the wife is happy.
This is also going to be one of my additions over the next year (when I can afford it). Besides communication with my wife, several of the people I ride with run the J&M setup.

Logged about 220 miles today, while appreciating the inventors of heated vests and grips. Oh, and the balaclava and wool socks also worked a treat. Temp was 45F when I departed and about 35F through the mountains at night on my way back. 8)

What part of NJ are you in? I am shopping aftermarket exhausts and would LOVE to hear that Leo Vince. Are you running it with a dB killer? How does it sound? Is it LOUD?

Yea! Found bolt, brain still missing, tool located, and boxes installed. Now I am going to go and sell the saddle bags from my previous bike, and I have somewhere to put them on this bike. I only have the heated grips and the case protectors to go, and I am waiting on the latter.

I'm sorry to say that I can not recommend the Touratech windshield bracket. I've replaced all the metal washers with rubber/steel laminate, I've replaced all the knobs with larger, more easily torqued ones, and it still won't hold an adjustment. There are a couple that use a longer ratcheting lever on a single adjusting point that should allow you to finally get things locked down. The others have a single tilt point, the upper, the Touratech has dual tilt points, upper and lower. Granted, a shorter screen may work better than my 'tallest' CalSci, less leverage.

Think I'm going to go with the WASP bracket - I like the ratcheting system on that one. Thanks for the heads up on the TT bracket.
