What tyres does your S10 wear?

Well, I have a nice new set of Continental Trail Attack 3 tyres on my S10, initial impressions are good although they appear to drop into a corner a little quicker than the Michelins, I think the Conti profile is more V Shaped than the more rounded profile of the Michelins that I have used for years but you get used to them quick enough and they feel pretty damn good, albeit with a sportier feel than the Michelins.

The Mitas EO7+ for my super tenere. How good is the cornering grip in the wet compared to the more road bias tyres like Metzeler tourance next? I have read reviews saying they were noisy on the road like aggressive m+s tyres on a land rover.Did you find they were noisy?
I’ve got the + Dakar’s and really like them. Yes they are a bit noisier then a more road biased tire, but it is not annoying at all. And yes ofcourse they have a little less cornering grip in the wet. But not in a way it is unsafe or unpleasant. They perform very well overall for what they are intended to do. A bit like the Super Tenere itself, not the best at anything particular but the best allrounder for what I do with it.

I,m onto my second rear, fronts still looking good after nearly 10k, and still gripping and tipping in much the same. Its looking like it‘ll last ok. They do tip in real easy though, nearly fell off first bend after fitting them in place of the crappy OE B’stones. I’ve a set of Tourances waiting to go on next, but I’ll be back to the TAs after.

I'm looking at different road tire options for the trip to Norway, which I hope will finally happen in July-August with the S10. This trip is mainly on tarmac and I don't want to do it with 50/50 tires. I really like the Michelin PR tires and have used them on my FJR, but I would like to try something different on the S10. So right now I'm most interested in Pirelli Scorpion Trail II or Continental Trail Attack 3, because I've only read good things about them...

Trail attack are excellent tires you wont go wrong with them. I believe the Road Attacks are available aswell.

I just recently put a rear Michelin Road 6 GT on. Tried finding a Road 5, but they couldn't find one in the right size. Seems to be more neutral than the Dunlop Road Smart 3 I had. Didn't like the Dunlops much at all. I was hoping to use the front Dunlop until it wore out, but I think the extra grip of the rear is going to cause me to over ride the front. Also, they gave me a high-speed oscillation that gets amplified with the boxes on. It's still there with the Michelin on the rear. I didn't have it with the Bridgestone A41.

For many years I've been a fan of the Shinko 705 tires. Over the years I've mounted six fronts and thirteen rears. I never got the kinds of mileages out of them that many people seemed to get, but then again, I never seem to get 9 or 10 thousand miles out of any brand of rear tire. The Shinko fronts lasted about 7500-8500 miles for me, and the rears were always in that 4500-5500 mile range. I do a lot of two up riding though, so that's to be expected.

They were good all around tires at a very economical price. The front tires tended to cup in a really weird way when they got up near 7000 miles, but that was probably my only gripe about them. They were good on wet roads, and did well in dirt and gravel. However, my most recent experience with them has sent me on a quest to find a different tire.

This month I put on a front replacement Shinko 705, and noticed a handlebar oscillation in the 30-40 mph range. I went through all the standard procedures; tire pressure, headset adjustment check, fork alignment, wheel bearing check, wheel runout, etc, and still had the oscillation. I put the old 705 I had just taken off back on the bike, and the oscillation was gone.

So I returned the tire as a warranty claim, and got another Shinko 705 for the front. And the same thing happened. Same oscillation, same speed range, and one again I went through all those maintenance procedures to rule out everything. I still had the oscillation after doing all that. So I borrowed an old Anakee 3 off a buddy and put that on, and boom, no more oscillation. I ended up returning this Shinko 705 as another warranty claim, and now I'm waiting on a Bridgestone A41.

The first tire had a date code of 1722, and the second was 0223, so that's about 9 months in between manufacturing dates. So it's kind of tough to write it off as a fluke during a single manufacturing run. The old Shinko 705 I used when I did the first swap had a date code of 4720, and that tire did not induce the handlebar shake. Maybe it's a pandemic hangover induced quality control issue, or a change in the manufacturing process, or something else; I don't know. But sadly I'm going to have to move on from these tires, at least for now.

I expect I'll go back to the Mitas E07 tires (not the "+" version) once I burn off this A41 and the remaining Shinko 705 rear.

Am also going to Norway, but mid June. I’m expecting a round trip of around 5k miles. Metzeler Tourance are my favoured tyre, although for this trip I’ll probably go for the base Tourance rather than the Next variant, which are my usual choice.
Must admit, I’m drawn to those Dunlops and might just give the Meridian version a go at some point, as I only ride on tarmac.

My Trail attacks have been brilliant. The fronts now on 12000k miles and still rides fine, or at least I don’t notice any reduction in performance even though it’s a rather funny shape now. The second rear is doing fine so far and I expect it‘ll see me another thousand or two. If I didn’t already have a pair of old spec Tourances waitinf in the loft I’d just buy another pair of TA3s from bikespeeduk. At £255 delivered they’re a bit of bargain atm.
Picture shows the old twos, but they are threes, just ring them to confirm they’ve got stock.

When I bought my S10 it came with basic Metzeler Tourance tires. They were still in good shape and I put them in storage when I installed the 50/50 tires. Yesterday I took the Tourances out of storage and installed them on the rims...

Tomorrow it's time to go test these Metzelers made in China, but I'm not going to Norway with them. :)

I am another fan of Continental Trail attack...
I have had them on for about a year and an half, about 11000 km and they still perform as good as new....
Two weeks ago I took a member from Wales to a Dolomites trip.
The road were cold, snow was on the side of the road but the roads were very clean though.
I got caught twice under the rain and always felt very comfortable.
I think they will last me 3000 km more, so probably around 14000 15000 km.
Definitely I will put them again
Money well spent in my opinion

I had a set of Meridians on and wasnt impressed with the milage on the rear. Although i do tend to kill tires more than others. Pressures are always kept up but i recall repacing the rear at about 3 thou.

Likewise, am pretty hard on tyres too. I’ll give the Dunlops a miss, 3k ish is unreasonable mileage for a tyre IMO.
