I've been looking for a new tent.
I like the way this tent sets up and keeps the interior dry while setting up.

I finally pulled the trigger on the Trango 3. I really wanted the Hilleberg Staika but realistically the Trango does everything I need but costs £400 less. So I used some of the savings to buy a Jetboil flash2 as well.

That's a really nice feature and what I'm looking for in my next tent. I remember getting soaked setting up my Kelty in the rain.

I’d stay away from any tent that you have to push the poles through sleeves. Modern clips that attach to the poles are better in every way.
That is for sure!
I see this tent does push the poles through a sleeve for a short way, That is why I haven't pulled the trigger yet. I might be able to live with it for all the other advantages.

Just taken delivery of the Mountain Hardware Trango 3. I haven’t pitched it yet but I’ve opened it up for a good look. First impressions are that materials are good quality and the DAC poles are heavy duty so I have no concerns about wind stability or snow loading. But the thing is covered in seam seals which were not mentioned in the info I read. I’m very dubious about seam seals being the weak point on a tent based on my experience with a Coleman tent that just fell apart. Now considering sending it back and changing to another make.

Matt I don't know much about the construction of tents other that in general, the more expensive they get the lighter and more durable they are. Just a quick look at the one you purchased is it's not really light but it's super durable and a serious tent for base camp mountaineering expeditions.

Yeah, I don’t intend to carry it on my back so I went for one that I can use as my base and leave pitched whilst I roam around locally. But I only want to buy this tent once and will be angry with myself if the seam tape starts peeling off after a few years.

In the absence of any camping opportunities, I pitched the new tent in the garden today. The instructions weren’t much help but it was pretty straightforward. The floor tub is very thin and I definitely should have bought the footprint that goes with it!

Cut 2(x) some thin plastic to size. Leave one inside the tent and one that is for outside.

I am currently considering the Hillbillyberg Kaitum 3 GT, or Anjan 3 GT. I was looking at the Wild Country Hoolie Compact 3 ETC as I had a Terra Nova Voyager when they first came out, but I am now 2 persons, whereas before the Voyager was prime real estate for one.

I will be in my four-wheeled motorbike (Caterham 7) and travelling approximately 11-13,000 miles around Europe. Covid has curtailed the trip and, restrictions permitting, we are thinking June - Sept 2023.

Been out-of-the-loop for camping equipment since 1998, so going through all the new gear was great fun.

NB: My one person Macpac Microlight , MSR XGK multifuel, Rab sleeping bag, etc, were all "acquired" by my sister's 8 kids, between 1998 and 2016?? I still have a Mountain Equipment climbing fleece, 25+ years on and the only thing wrong with it is that it has lost the zipper tag. My Thai ex has my Dana Designs Terraplane (2007) - I gave it to her in a moment of (perhaps temporary) insanity...

Hennessy hammock... with built in mosquito net and a tarp over it. Weighs only 1300 grams.
Needs a season-fitting sleeping bag (got choice of four) and optional a self inflatable mat.
Sleeps great and packs the size of a milk carton. Had so much fun with this combination..
Use it for hiking, but works excellent with biking too!! (What fits in the backpack, fits in the panniers)

Have you considered a Quasar or Hilleberg. The ME is a great tent and I would think your experience with a Coleman will not be back to haunt you. You will have to reseal occasionally though - all sealed seams require maintenance
