I was trying to be helpful with a suggestion to try to adjust the headlights, as many have found them not to be adjusted properly when new. I didn't realize that you were a professional driver and didn't need any suggestions, so I will refrain from wasting your time in the future.

Cons
Vibration when accelerating, I did not notice it during the test ride, it may be getting better or I am used to it, not sure but it's not as noticeable now.
Right hand falls asleep, had the same problem n the zx, never on the KLR, no biggy personal egros thing
seat is ok comfy but I get tired of my nuts on the tank.
Try a set of handlebar weights. I just installed a set of Manic Salamander handlebar weights that I had installed on the RT. Rode a 200 mile ride and never felt like I needed to take my hand off the throttle for a break. It is an inexpensive mod that improved the ride quality on the BMW and now on the S10.

Good tip will give it a go.

Any Ideas what the vibration during acceleration is from? I thought I read that it could be tires? I guess I need to mess around and see if it has something to do with T.

I should note my Woman loves it, course her experience comes from riding on the back of scooters in the Philippines and my KLR so not like she is used to any kind of real comfort ::013::

I had not rode a motorcycle for 36 years and all the sudden I thought it was time to have a motorcycle again. So the search began and being 6' 4" it was hard to find something that fit, I sat on cruisers and some different enduro/adventure type bikes for about two months and decided to go with the adventure type bike since having 4wd trucks since the 80's and being an old bmx kid. So the search for the 4wd style motorcycle began, the Moto Guzzi and BMW where always favorites as a kid so went and sat on a few and really liked the Guzzi and then went to look at the Tenere, so the research began on these two. So I went with the Tenere and so far very happy with the bike after installing some 1/2" rubber washers under the frt. seat bracket ( a little more leg room).

As usual, post something when a man is physically exhausted. Apologize to psquac for offense and the owner of this site in the past. I drink too much beer. Was showing off to my granddaughter and sister 5 years or so ago with this bike, jumping a bank. Did this jump stone cold sober a good bit before because, I always felt like I could physically dominate it. Because of too many beers beforehand, I came down and missed veering off from the curb. Futile attempt to lift the front end over the curb. Accident damn near killed me. However, no matter. I still maintain this bike is a "plasticky thing". I saw a 1975 BMW 900 a few years back at a fair. My ganddaughter asked why I wept. That bike mentally saved my life at the time. Anyway, I had to fix everything that was injured on the bike and that is when I learned just how "plasticky" this machine that so many men idolize really is. That BMW900 that took me across the country and back sure didn't have any weak plastic on it. By the way, I've finally taken my wife's advice and stay off any machine that has some umph.

50 years ago cars were made out of metal too. I think if you go look at the new BMW bikes, there is a whole lot of plastic on them too.

To RMARBLE1,

See my March 28, 2014 post: 2014 XT 1200Z photos. It's a quality backrest built by Cher-Dan, with a small Pelican case behind. Wife loves the backrest and the bike has a nicer profile. I'm on a road trip now, but if memory serves, I think they may be in Washington State. Spokane?
Good Luck,
Scott

That was good to read !!! I fills me with hope. I wonder how much you farkled your bike before the trail riding off road course.
Interested to know what all you have on your s10 right now.
Thanks,
Joel

Just posted this in the GS/ST thread and it bears reposting for this survey

I road Observed trials for decades. I road raced. I road a lot of lot of commute miles. At the annual San Mateo motorcycle show in 2010 I happened to ride the Tenere. It was the first ADV bike that I had been on that I had a chance to get my feet down, most of them gave me a nosebleed from the seat height. Bonus 1. ::008:: Test ride was a mix of freeway, street and goaty road. The Tenere did them all really really well. Bonus 2. ::008:: Back into the parking lot and stood up on the pegs, solid, easy full lock turns, perfectly balanced weight down low. Bonus 3...done, sold. ::008::

Ordered, waited, waited and got to know all these fine folks as we salivated over the bike and dreamed farkle dreams.

After I got the bike I took an off road class for big bikes at an OHV park I had known for 40 years. I knew every inch of that place and in my mind I had a list of all the places I would not/could not ride the Tenere. Somehow the instructor did not have the same list and we rode all the trails I had ridden my trials bike on. Trails mind you, not sections. Regardless I came away from that day knowing I had bought a great big trials bike capable sport touring.

Next was Death Valley and two days off road; gravel;some fast, some deep, sand, rocks, steps. All no problems. Big smiles. Then it was Prudhoe Bay and back. 9,000 miles. No issues, took it all in stride.

36,000 trouble free miles now, lots of dirt, (still dirty from a recent Death Valley trip with even more and tougher trails this time ( and a gravel road/two track that we were hitting 65 mph on ???). I bought this bike to do medium length trips (200 - 300 miles), long trips (thousands of miles), and dirt riding. This bike excels in the dirt, way better than ever anticipated and it does all those other things very well.

Expectations exceeded in capability, reliability and fun factor. All that and it was (and remains) a reasonable expense ::001::

I like mine just fine, I've owned 30 some bikes and I'd say the Tenny is better than most as a decent all-rounder. I don't really have any complaints. The bike fit me perfectly right off the showroom which is a miracle in itself and does pretty much everything I ask it to do. I'm pretty happy with it.

Too soon for me to tell, I just got the bike last week. Only have been able to ride 70 miles or so. It's been over 28 years since I have rode on street for any amount of time. I spent the last 8 years riding Moto Track on a KTM, (that is when ever time allowed me to). It feels really cool being able to take the Super T out for a 25 min. ride. I can tell that I'm an addict, as soon as I get home I can not wait for the next ride. Kinda like a drug addiction. Just more fun...

I have 1800 miles on my 2014 (2013) S10 and I'm lovin' it ! The stock screen is poo (like 99% of big traillie/ adventure bikes) but the rest of the bike is a decent place to start with very little required to get it how I want it. Good handling, good fuel economy and legendary reliability. And you don't look like a tool when you get off it either, unlike a BMW...

I have about 500 miles on my new '14 now and just love it. Took it on a 250 mile round trip last week and at 65-70 mph, it was very agile and smooth. The cruise control is a god send and it got 50+ mpg. I'm sold!

Leaving tomorrow for a 1300 mile weekend. Unfortunately with the places I have to be and the timing, it will be mostly super-slab and not fun roads. But with abut 2300 miles on the S10 I am taking it instead of the Stratoliner with about 27K. Poor Strat.

Was shocked to find out just how good of a ROAD bike the '14 Super Tenere ES really is.

This bike replaced my Yamaha FZ road bike and I use a KTM 690 Enduro for my dirt riding, but oh what a surprise the S10 is for me up in the paved twisty mountain roads riding with my sport bike buddies.

The low end torque out of the turns and handling is just great. With so much focus on its off road capabilities, the on-road capability and riding on longer trips is very comfortable and confidence inspiring.

Originally planned to buy a KTM 1190 Adventure and so glad I test rode the new Tenere ES. Love the bike, nice, smooth, comfortable and enjoyable to ride.
