I moved my Yamaha cases from my 13 to the 14 ES and I have to agree there are changes in the mounting areas under the passenger pegs. Yamaha Canada does not have any idea what I am talking about and keep telling me the bike is the same as the 13 and the bags mount the same way. I ended up taking off the heat shield and leaving it off and on the side with the shock reservoir I mounted the case mount and put the reservoir mount on the inside of the bag mount. The wiring harness appears to be crimped but I don't know any other way to mount the brackets. It would be nice if they had up dated the mounting instructions for the ES.

Anyone else notice a gear like whine around 2700 RPM? it's pretty consistent and quite annoying. Other than that I love the bike, everything I could ask for. I tried changing to the Yamalube10w50 at 600 miles but it's still there. The bike's a '13 with a thousand miles on it so it'll probably loosen up over time. Still kind of annoying though.

I just made a 50 mile ride home from the dealer on my new ES. I was impressed with its handling and comfort. I am have been riding a KLR for 11 years and this is exactly what I wanted for the type of riding I do. Its nice to be able to stand flat footed at intersections. I will study the manual tonight to figure out how all the electronics work. ::012::

Take a look on advrider.......in the Beasts sub-category. Lots of varied opinions, some good, some not so good, but if you read between the lines, you'll get a good idea what you're looking at.
They're all good bikes and it will depend on what you want to spend, your tolerance to maintenance, your riding style (dirt vs street) and of course Reliability.
In my opinion, the Tenere strikes an excellent balance between price, features and reliability.

Clutch Vibe is turning me off..

I do long riding episodes and just would like it to be a bit more comfortable at 80 mph without my hands having an outer body experience after 200 miles.. :'(

I feel like for me it's the sweep of the bars that agrivates me. It puts all the contact on one part of the hand. Planning on buying some less swept bars soon.

I took all the controls off my bars and put a pipe over the end and bent them 1 inch forward and a tad up. Feels really good now.

I had sold what was the best road bike ever for me, an 04 zx4r and bought a 650 KLR for some ADV riding.
I liked that bike way more than anyone should And for one person it was perfect, two up not so much.
I was looking at used v strom 1000s as well as FJRs. I really was not overly impressed with the strom, the power seemed bland and the bike top heavy, I was also tired of worrying how much someone beat the damn thing.
There were no close FJRs or storms so I took a trip to look at a test model which was still. 3.5 hour drive away.
The bike blew me away, and the price was right and while I was not looking for man aftermarket pipe and power commander I decided that I loved the way it aoudad and since I liked the setup overall I would buy it.

1000 miles later with my longest day an easy 400 miles here are my thoughts.

Pros
The bike handles dirt better than the KLR, the low center of gravity is confidence inspiring.
Wonderful torque
I like the ability to turn the TC off although I find myself leaving it on one.
Looks are amazing
Handles crazy well, I need to dial in the front, nothing big but my zx was track tuned so something I notice.
Fairly comfy

Cons
Vibration when accelerating, I did not notice it during the test ride, it may be getting better or I am used to it, not sure but it's not as noticeable now.
Right hand falls asleep, had the same problem n the zx, never on the KLR, no biggy personal egros thing
seat is ok comfy but I get tired of my nuts on the tank.

What I find inexcusable are the headlights, for the love of god what happened? They put about as much light on the road as my 82 Virago did and the high beams are damned near as useless, good for lighting up tree tops though.
Touchy throttle, Took some getting used to but it was concerning with my gurl on the back, she really holds on tight.

Overall I like it, not blown away as with my test ride nor do I feel it's thousands better than the KLR, probsbly how I would feel with any ADV bike but I like it.

Ever take the Triumph Tiger 1050 for a night ride?
These Tenere lights rock after owning a Tiger 1050 they should be outlawed they are so bad..
???

The clutch vibe is setting me off as I stated before I changed the bars with risers first month but I do like the idea bending the bars out as I liked how wide they are.
Reminds me of my old Honda CR250 Elsinore.

It seems that if they are lighting up the tree tops, it is time to adjust the aim properly. Perhaps then they would light up the road instead of the treetops.

First off I will apologise for the above messy post, I have big thumbs and do not get along well with the Ipad :p

No I have not tried the Triumph, I would like to, in the daylight of course.

Adjust them where? Straight down? they are right where they need be at this time, the rest I mentioned, FYI for what it is worth I Am a professional driver so probably more aware than most where light needs to shine.

I was trying to be helpful with a suggestion to try to adjust the headlights, as many have found them not to be adjusted properly when new. I didn't realize that you were a professional driver and didn't need any suggestions, so I will refrain from wasting your time in the future.
