What 90/10 tires is everyone running now?

The Battlewings my bike came with are coming to the end of their life, so shopping for something new. I can't say I have any complaints about them, they worked great on my Blue Ridge/Deals Gap trip this past weekend. I can pick up the same BW501/502's for pretty cheap, but wondering if I should get something newer. The Battlewing is after all a really old design.

What's everyone running now? Primary focus is mileage with good pavement grip, only the occasional fire road.

I’ve put 4k miles on a set of the new Bridgestone A41 tires. They’re good but not sure if I will replace with the same. My previous tire of choice was the Pirelli Scorpion Trail II (four pairs) and averaged 9k miles a set. Both are good in the SoCal canyons at spirited paces and never had and surprises cruising fire roads.

Just finished a set of Scorpion Trail IIs and was impressed with both wet performance and mileage. Pulled them off for an extended trip at 11,200 miles and they still probably had 1,000 miles of local riding left in them. Finishing off some take-offs now and have a set of Metzler Next waiting in the wings.

Changing my own tires has its benefits!

Why the switch to Metzelers if you were happy with the Scorpions?

Probably the most common "go to" for this bike with the biggest following is the Mitas E07. Fairly good life, good on road, and good off till things get soupy.
There are already several threads about the Mitas tires, so read those for more info.

Just finishing up my second set of OEM Battlewings, no complaints, good handling and mileage. Ran a set of Anakee IIIs in between and have a set of Shinko 705s ready to go on next, though to be fair I think they are more of an 80/20 tire.

I'm running the A41s. They seem ok. I'm back to work, so haven't been able to torture test them yet. But for normal riding, I don't see a big difference between them and the Battle Wings (BW). As good as the BWs were, especially for the price, I would rather that Bridgestone would just keep producing them.

Ran through a few sets of 705's on V-Strom. Heads up, they burn down super fast if riding on a hot highway, loaded up. Used up a rear in 4k miles on a Colorado trip last year. Easily wore through 75% of it in the first 2500 miles. Had me worried it may not last through the trip.

I’ve heard experiences both ways, so this is an experiment. I tend to get better tire mileage than most so at this price point, if I can get acceptable mileage and like the handling they’ll be my go-to tires.

Variety is the spice of life... ;)

Tires are consumable and I'll have the set worn out in a year or so. If I like the Metzlers, great, if not they're gone and I'll run something else. Picked them up with the rebate and some RMATV bucks for less than $200 for the set. Too good to pass up!

But this is a 90/10 tire thread. The Mitas 07 is more of a 70/30 or 80/20 & can be noisy
Mitas does have a 90/10 tire though

Im about to install a set of Anakee IIIs
I had a used 3-4K rear I put on last Spring which got anuther 4K put on before tryin a T30 Stone on a Summer trip. That tire only lasted about 4K. Current tires are Full Bore M40/41...rear done by 4K (Texas has that crappy chip seal on many roads which is like 80grit sandpaper) Anakees have been the longest lasting by far

Mounted up these Michelin’s for our recently completed all pavement USA 4 corners ride.

They certainly make the Tenere into a much quieter road holding ride than the Mitas E-O7s I normally run. They did the ride and I removed the rear Road 5 at 18,500km with a bit left, but it was pretty well done so I’m giving the Mitas Terra Force R 90-10 rear a try for our upcoming 3 flags ride in Sept.

It seems to be a fairly new tire from Mitas with not much feedback on it yet. Ive still got the Michelin Pilot Road 4 Trail on the front with what looks to be enough tread left for the upcoming ride. So far The Terra Force is doing fine with a very slight hum at speed but to soon to know how it’s wet weather or wear will be like.
I did notice it’s a very stiff carcass when it came to mounting. Much more along the lines of an E-07 compared to the much softer Michelin Road 5 rear I took off.

I have ~8,000 miles on a set of Terra Force and would both recommend and purchase again. Very good on the road and fine for the occasional dirt excursion. Not sure why they’re not more popular. Lack of marketing?

I'm 3000 miles into a set of A41's. If they give me OK milage I see no reason not to replace them with another set of A41's.
I usually go 2-up with loaded panniers and tankbag.

Never heard of the Terra Force. One search showed over $300 and a negative review. The Regulator seems to like his... what say you BWC?

Don’t know exactly how well they are going to work at this point as I just recently mounted the rear for our upcoming 3 flags ride in Sept. which is approx. 7000 km.
So far with the few miles ive put on it I like it better than the Shinko 705 radial version I tried on the same ride last year.
The Canadian distributor for Mitas tires is local to me and I’ve spoken with him and he’s asked for some feed back on how it does on the ride as they are fairly new in the Mitas lineup. $160.00 CA for the rear right now at the Canadian distributor.
That’s how we came across the E-07 back in 13 when we first saw them available. Won’t know till you give a new tire line a try.

Metzeler Tourance Next. Front is now at 11k km and still looks like it's got 50% life. Rear about 3k km and still looks new. Good dry and wet grip. Never rode off-road. The rear seems to have a loud whine at certain speeds below 100 kph.

My 90/10 would be the Pirelli Scorpion Trail 2. Excellent wear, feedback and easy installation. Shame they cost close to 3 bills and suck in sand/mud but are a nice change of pace to the knobbies I usually run.
I was actually about to go that route myself, but instead went with the Scorpion Rally STRs. Supposed to be in between the Trail 2 and Rallys - quite a high silica ratio (55%?). Not knowing how my riding will be, being new to the ADV world, and I like the idea of taking the less traveled road, I thought I'd give these a try. We'll see 5k miles later. IF I'm finding much more road miles, I'd go with the Trail 2s for sure.

I am running the scorpion trail 2 with 4000 on them , so far the ware is good and they hook up good in the rain . Not to good in muck and deep sand and it is a heavy bike , I just turn off traction control and have fun .
