I sometimes blast a dirty firearm with wd40 penetrating oil to knock the crap out then let drain well . then use cleaning stuff and a lubricating oil in the right spot .... note never spray your ammo with penetrating oil as it might compromise the primer and not fire when needed...

Just went through all the local hoops in NY after not carrying in a decade since I left CT. Ordered a Glock 43x, 2 extra mags, 40 rounds of Gold Dots and 250 of FMJ to acclimate & a Stealth Gear AWIB holster. Pics in a few weeks hopefully.

Another great gun, Ruger 77/22, it shoots the CB 22 shells that are quieter than an air gun, works extremely well on assorted vermin. FB693203-A3C5-40B0-A0A5-60ACB9B24C01.jpegAB50163F-0A8C-464B-8C09-E0E25918E665.jpeg

My all time favorite gun, bought at 12 yrs old with a Bushnell scope. Paid $100 fo gun and scope. Has had well over 500k rounds down the he barrel. Still shoots great. Ruger 10/22View attachment 68633
I have a Ruger 10/22 as well. It has had a BUNCH of rounds ran through it. It is a great gun and i enjoy the heck out of it still. I don't buy a lot of new guns and this is really old news but i am guessing about 20 years ago Ruger denied health insurance to its employee's who rode motorcycles. I said i would not buy Ruger till that was corrected. I think they dropped that policy when the AMA got involved but i am not sure. The most fun gun i have is a Chines made SKS. You can't let my youngest boy get a hold of that and lot of shells! He loves to burn the powder!

My all time favorite gun. . . . Still shoots great. Ruger 10/22. . . .
I almost got the Ruger back in . . . .'82 I think. But, W-M was selling the Marlin semi-auto, by mistake, for the price of a single/bolt action. I would have preferred the Ruger's box mag, but $38 was even more preferred. I found a Tasco variable on sale for $12. Mine is also used for vermin eradication.

Your Ruger 77 reminded me. Cleaning your rifle(s). . . . you can do pistols the same way, but it's more apparent with rifles. Stop brushing your barrels. I know, sounds ridiculous. I thought it was too when I first heard about it. But, I tried it, first with the precision FN, and then with the AR. Huge difference. Use two wet pads, and then two dry, down the barrel. That's it, you're done. Your groups will shrink. And, the next time you go shooting, your zero will be the same as it was before. When I was using a brush, the FN would shoot 1" left for five rounds, before the zero would be back to where it had been. The AR would be 1" left, and 1" low for about 10 rounds. Stopped brushing, and the zeros stayed the same. . . .always.

I was attending the F.B.I. sniper school in '07. There was two active duty Marine Scout Snipers in the class. We noticed that they were always done cleaning their weapons waaaay quicker than us. We asked how, and they told us about the 2 wet/2 dry method. Like I said, I was skeptical. . . . until I tried it, and it worked.

If you have not already tried it, find an Appleseed event near you and shoot their AQT. It's a challenge even for an experienced shooter.

MattR -

Per Post #1 which set this thread up your posts were deleted as well as the responses from Sierra1 because you are asking about gun rights and 2nd Amendment questions. There are a number of gun forums you can [too] easily find with Google.

You're probably not aware but the questions you were asking were the usual start of the "what is legal" for protecting yourself yada yada. Sorry for the deletion since you seem not to be aware.

Correct. That’s not a conversation that we are used to having in the UK. That’s why it was interesting to me. Sounds like it’s not a comfortable question to ask in the US so I’ll steer clear...

IIts a subject that people can very strong views on so the disclaimer was put there so the thread does not turn into a big argument which is not friendly and not good for the forum.
Basically though its to stop someone like us going over there and taking over their country again.
