I'm planning to buy an S-10 next week. I heard there was some vibration in the handlebars at highway speeds? Anybody heard/experience this? I know it's subjective. I'm coming off a DL650

i heard all kinds of things about them too but i own one and have not noticed any of the "problems" others seem to be having, if your coming off a big single this thing will seem like a Cadillac for you ::008::

Are you buying sight unseen or have you taken it for a ride?

I have had an hour or so on an S10 and the Australian Spec one I rode I would put halfway between my DL1000 and my previous SV650. So its like a DL800 in the vibes department but with torque like a DL1300 down low, and I mean that in both amount and character.

That's about the best way I can put it. Some are a bit off song and need a tweak, just like my DL was, so get to know whether the dealers techs have a clue.

I do my own so I know it's done, if you know what I mean.

This site will very helpful as well.

Cheers
Graham

Yes, some to the bikes have a vibration, I know mine does. I have had to do some tweaks to mine to manage the vibes and it is getting better. Or, I'm getting used to it. LOL.

And yes, you can't believe everything you read on the internet. Especially what Bloke writes. ::024::

All bikes have vibration. Everyone experiences it a bit differently as we ride differently, in different conditions, with different farkles and loads, and different expectations/tolerances. In so far as I am concerned vibration is not an issue on my S10. My other bike is a BMW boxer. Folk on the BMW forum complain about vibration too. Before that I had a v-twin..... I needed a mouth guard to tour on that thing. The S10 is comparable to the boxer, and for me at least vibration is simply not bothersome.

Only you can decide what you think of the S10's ride. Try to get a test ride.

I'm coming off a KLR 650 and can only say "what vibration?". It's so easy to keep a light feel on the handlebars with the S10. I use a Vista cruise for touring and I have never once experienced any uncomfortable vibration.

I had an R1200GS, and didn't think vibration was an issue. Rode the F800GS, and it was annoying. I'm looking at the S-10 as a long distance road bike that won't shy away from gravel. Smooth is important to me, but only on very long days.
Thanks all, for the replys

John I find that all bikes have some kind of harmonic vibes to them, some annoying, some not so much so.
The Tenere has some vibes to it but I don't find it annoying. I do use an electronic cruise control on the highways.
I recently spent a week on the road, every day was at least 12 hrs on the bike and I arrived home without any complaints about the bike.
I had an R1200RT, the vibes in it got progressively worse as speeds got above 70 MPH.
I dont think the Tenere is the right bike for everyone but it is the right bike for me. It definitely has character and I dont mean that in a bad way.

My other bike is a Gold Wing (still ride) and haven't notice any vibration with the ST (which doesn't imply it doesn't exist, maybe having too much fun). If anything, I'm surprised how nice it rides at highway speeds (most likely due to the better suspension over Wing).

Note, I didn't like the ST too much at first, but with 1000 miles on it I love it.

VERY LITTLE! Yes it has some but nothing like my V-Strom 1000. For the most part it is smooth all over. If you want really smooth don't ride a bike.
The Tenere is going to be a very good long haul bike and I plan on putting it to the test. I even love it for it dirt road handling. At 500+ lbs it feels much lighter in handling. If you road one you would swear it is under 400lbs.

I figured it was ok, but a test ride in this part of the country is out of the question. thanks all

That's ironic because I was thinking the exact opposite. I love my S10 but I wish it was a smooth as my old Vee. I've done some mods to help control the vibes and hopefully the motor will smooth out with some miles.

Well, I managed to find out. Dealer in Indy had one in stock, and let me ride it.....Damn it! I brought it home--black, the stealth color.

::026::Mine has also loosened up a lot and much smoother. As a former big bore single rider I have to admit I find the S10 pulse to be very big single like. I love thumping around in the dirt on this thing! ;D
