I did the seat mod a while ago to great effect, but with a small variation regarding the rear tongue. To take up the slack on the tongue, rather than add a packer/pad etc I just used a hot air gun and heated the tongue up and bent it up the required amount. No need to glue or drill anything and it is reversible when you come to sell. Just be careful to only heat the tongue and not the seat foam, I placed a damp towel around it for protection.
Pictures please

It's 19mm.
19 mm is too big.
I used a 10 mm drill - it took some work to fit the bumper through the hole, but it's doable.

Just wanted to report that I performed the mod on a seat concepts regular seat (most recent) today using the instructions in post 1 at the beginning of this thread. The first post suggested using a half height bumper where the tounge fits to the stay to take up slack however as some people reported further on the thread, this left some up and down movement/slack. I also found some side to side on the rear of the seat.

I removed the half height and tried one of the two removed full height bumpers in the same position and that took all slack out of the tounge. Seat feels lower in the rear (pretty much flat now) and doesn't move at all.

Hope this helps.
After reading your post I fitted a full height bumper. It's a tight fit, but after a few times you learn how to install the seat - and there is zero slack!
Thank you for the suggestion.

Glad it worked out for you! I have thousands of miles on the mod and it's quite the simple comfort tweak.

Hmmmm...I've got the same problem, the seat, an OEM Yamaha lower seat using the shorter rubbers or seat bumpers. My seat rocks fore and aft.
I'm going to put a large bumper in the rear beneath the plastic tongue if I can.
I'll get back to everybody.

Hmmm...no luck with stabilising my seat.
As mentioned, I'm a bit too short to ride the tenere, so I bought a Yamaha OEM lower seat. It has six large rubber bumpers attached to the underside of the seat, same as the OEM seat that came with the bike.
I took this a step further because as we know the seat sits at an angle, that is the front of the seat is lower than the rear of the seat.
I purchased a package of five shorter rubber bumpers and used four of these shorter bumpers in the OEM lower seat's four rear positions. Upon installing the seat, I noticed that the seat rocks fore and aft.
I then installed a 5th shorter bumper in the hole located in the bracket in the centre of the seat area where the "tongue" of the rear of the seat attaches. No luck, the seat is still loose.
Today, I removed this shorter bumper from the hole where the tongue attaches and I installed a large bumper.
Now, I'm unable to get the tongue into this bracket.
Perhaps, next time I go to check my bike, I'm going to put two or four large bumpers in the four rear areas of the seat.
I'll try to get some pictures.
Suggestions???

Addendum: I re read most of the posts on this topic..."sounds like this works for me" and this is is good and no changes, I'm totally confused and I think I will have my legs stretched. Ha ha...

I tried reading through the whole thread but lost the will to live. So can I just ask, does this slopey seat issue affect gen 1 and gen 2 models?

Does anyone know the thickness of the smaller rubber pad with part number 22W-24741-00? I'm a cheapskate and was hoping to find some cheaper alternatives.
Thanks,

Hello all. Does anyone know of an online retailer in Canada that sells the seat rubbers for the mod? I'm all for supporting local but the mark up here in Canada is ridiculous. And the Yamaha support here is lacking.

it is a very common Yamaha part so shouldn't be any trouble acquiring those.

Lots of price variation among retailers on these simple things. Best online price I've found to date in USA is Partzilla at $4.14 each. Still kinda high for a little piece of rubber, but it is a special piece of rubber, I guess.
