Turn any jacket into a heated one

Purchased two aftermarket seat heat pads and had a seamstress sew them in.

$40 mod. I have it hooked up to a GEARS temperature controller as it can get quite warm.
Did the same thing to the seat. Bought a kids leather jacket and then sewed another heat pad into that. Added some more foam up front , ( I find Tenere seats to forward sloped) and now I can do 700-800 miles easy. Best mod ever

A couple of the lads on the vstrom uk forum did the heated seat pad in the jacket mod. One went as far as taking out the heater filament and sewing directly into the lining of his riding jacket. We all joked that it looked like a suicide vest but it does work well. He's not set on fire yet, so he's calling it a win.

I plan on doing the seat.
My wife bought me the seat heater pads for Christmas.
Will be perfect for those cold morning rides to work.

I suppose we all have an idea of what “win” means. The pads are fairly flexible , so I think I’ll keep that level of protection against shorts and skin burn... :)

I find the idea intriguing. I don't want to sew my $800 Gortex Badlands jacket. Fearful of comprising the water proof ness. To me the gain would be having it available on the fly with out stopping. No one wants to be that guy. By the time you add the controllers you are getting close to what a heated liner will run.

Some of the that magic sew powder you heat up with an Iron might work on the edges. Have you figured a way to do the sleeves?
No! The pads are sown into the cold weather zip in liner. I would never pierce the GoreTek. It goes on the side that faces the inside of the jacket, so you can’t even see it when holding the jacket up, just the cord dangling

And no I never felt the need for heating the sleeves. Between heated gloves, heated seat, heated grips, heated soles and heated jacket , (all wired) I can ride all day down to the freezing point.
