Hi all, I’ve just got a Touratech Standard seat from eBay and I cannot make it fit at all! I have transferred the rubbers over from stock seat into the exact same positions and I just cannot get it to fit. After a lot of effort I can make it go 1 click into the front locking mechanism but it isn’t secure a wobbles around like jelly. I ride with it in the high position if it makes a difference? Anyone any ideas?

Have you tried turning the key in the seat lock while pushing down on the seat?

Can't fit at all doesn't really describe a problem. If you have the rear tab tucked in correctly, then it's a matter of locating the front of the seat so the latch connects. If you have it in "one click", but it "wobbles around like jelly", it's not all the way down, but is still loose. That happens with the stock seat too if you're out of position.

Try moving the seat more against the tank and make sure the lock/latch is not already closed before pushing down on the front of the seat.

Some aftermarket seats don't fit well in the low position since that requires them to be farther forward against the tank and seat shape prevents this. High position is usually easier.

To clarify, you're under seat plastic frame is to the rear, leaving a gap at the front where the notch is?

So, I’ve managed to get it to fit with the seat in the low position (plastic to the rear of the bike). But the high position it just can’t be pushed down far enough even by doing all that you say. I will get the mrs to hold the key turned whilst I try and push, but it should need this much force surely?!

Ok, (I got it backwards - No bike to look at right now), so that's good that if fits in the low position.

Sounds like the front edge of the seat is hitting the tank and preventing it from going down enough to catch in the latch. Two things you can try, one is loosening the tank pivot bolt, (its got a rubber bushing), and the front side mount bolts for the tank. Then see if the seat will latch in the high position. If it does, tighten the front side tank mount bolts while the seat is locked down in the high position. Then remove the seat and re-tighten the rear tank pivot bolt. It should still allow you to now latch the seat in the high position. This just re-positions the tank a tad farther forward.

The second thing is what Cycledude suggested. There is only one metal bracket on the bottom of the seat. And yes, it's the one with the loop that fits into the latch. Take it off and put a washer under it so it sticks out farther from the seat pan. That way it is effectively lower into the latch and should catch and lock.

Your wobbly description makes me think that it's more about the tank interference than the latch.

Thanks guys, I’ve given up for the night and will look again tomorrow with fresh eyes. After a bit more playing around with it, when it’s locked in the locking mechanism you can pull it up, with about 1cm play. Will have another look tomorrow!

Ok, I’ve done the seat mod to add the small rubber bung to the slot at the back, that’s made it pretty stable now and it’s sits securely in the locking mechanism. There is some side to side rocking movement at the rear so I was thinking of adding some long rubber stops to the 2 points at the very rear of the seat to stop that, then I think it will be perfect.

My Russel is like that because I added the lower rubber stops. I didn't bother adding the extra one in the slot to take up the play. Its not been an issue. I don't notice any movement of the seat when I ride.

Is the plastic height adjustment in the correct spot? Are you rubber rubber pads ont seat hitting tit in the correct spot?

My touratech driride fits really loose. For some reason it doesn't bother me at all. It was a pain to get it in position when I first got it. Another St owner kept telling me I was struggling too much with it and it should go in easy. I don't have any problem with it anymore and I didn't do anything to it.

Cheers guys, glad to know it’s not just mine then. I’m happy with how it is now, although haven’t ridden with it on just yet.

If I ever had a seat that didn't sit fully on the bumpers I would use those felt pads for chair legs. They are available in different thicknesses or can be trimmed with a knife to take up any slack/movement.

You can put on the bottom of the seat or on top of where the seat sits. I chose the latter.
