Edited: (Anakee Wild is NOT available)

So I got 4 3 tires to choose from for my Texas to Colorado. Then Colorado to Calgary. Then Calgary back to Texas trip.

I have a fairly new K60 on the rear. Safe to say it would likely survive the whole trip. After all, it is the mileage KING. (even if I don't get the same long life as some do)
I also have an unused Big Block
I have a Anakee Wild on its way
And I have a Karoo 3 on its way.

Pretty sure I will run the K60 up to Colorado. And then when I get there, IF THE PASSES are open, throw on the Big Block.
This would require me to haul it up there Nick Sanders style. (Strapped on) I've done it before with a Karroo for Big Bend. Was a piece of cake.

But we all know without a shadow of a doubt, the Big Block will only be good for that week. So if that is what I do, the K60 will be the remounted tire for the rest of the trip. (Tarmac mostly, I imagine)

But I just can't come to grips with leaving the new Wild or Karroo 3 at home. It's like not taking all your guns to a gun fight.
If there was just some history with either of these tires and someone could show a reasonable expectation of their life span, I could possibly try one out.
Basically, something in the back of my mind says I will like that KArroo3 on tarmac every bit as much as the K60. Not sure if I will like it as much off road.

See? It's a dilemna.

Hey Dirt Dad?

NO to the big block... it will be smoked when you get to CO... The new wild and karoo might be great but not tested... Are you willing to buy or change tires in the middle of your trip if need be ?
If it where me, I would put on the mileage king **K60** and go have a great time... come home and beat on those other new ones... IMOP there is no mileage or performance data on those other new ones yet, to much to chance.....

Damn, you are a tire slut. Send a few of those new ones up here, let me test a few for ya.... ::26:: The GEN II is going to wear some rears out on my bike faster than I like.. I have to stick with a harder compound.. Gen II is killing the tread.... :D ::26::

Well, it gets simpler now. Turns out the supplier confused the Anakee 3 for the Anakee Wild. I thought I might have been the first!

Hey Jaxon. Yea, I was talking about pack-muling the knobby to Colorado. Then swapping for the passes. Then swap back for the rest of the trip.

You know how I feel about the big block. It's garbage.

what dates are you in Calgary? I'm running away between the 6th and 11th to BC.

I thought you meant "garbage" = ridiculous short life span?
But that performance (off road traction) was NOT the issue?

In fact, from what I have researched, it seems like folks almost unanimously agreed the thing hooked up really good, but sacrificed it's life in doing so.
Sounds PERFECT for a 4 day off road adventure. :)

If your going to change tires like that the BB would probably be best because they are so soft... Great on the rocks..... Might rip off some knobs though.. ::26::

ooops The Calgary dates.......

Currently I am expected to be at the Stampede on the 10th and 11th. Got some suite available at the Rodeo. (I think we get to act important)
Then my CEO said I (we) MUST go with them to Banff for a day or 2.

I just read the excellent ride report from the fella that rode through there. It sucks that our dates will not allow us the time to explore up there. Instead, we must use our days to work our way back down through Montana, Idaho, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico. Then fly the ladies home from Albuquerque while the boys ride our Iron horses home to the coast. (Galveston area for you folks far away)

I got 6000 miles on my Kenda Big Block. Forest roads and trails in West VA, VA, mountains of NC, Maine, NY, VT, and the Adirondacks. It felt comfortable on the Interstate going 90 also. No complaints with that tire, will try again soon.
