I also have an FZ7 that needs new tires. Currently I have Bridgestone BT023's that lasted 12000 miles ! Plan to stick with them.
Now the question, I have an 023 GT rear that was given to me but I see the GT is for heavy bikes so should I use it on the rear
and keep same front that I was using or just by a new set just like I had. Last thing I want is a high side!

Personally, I don't like to mix and match tires. I also believe in synthetic engine oil!

According to Bridgestone's website, it looks like the only difference is the heavier carcass in the GT for higher loads. They don't say that the compounds are different which would matter in slippage during cornering, or that the treads are different.

If it were me I'd try it and be a bit cautious till really knowing that they corner the same.

I've mixed a bunch of tires. I came up riding with whatever tires I could get my hands on. I lived in the Louisiana sticks. Can be a hair raisng experience sometimes. In the seventies . We were running Cheng Sheng $30 dollars tires on RD350's. Burnem off and get some more.

If you're asking about tires for the S10, the GT is what you want to begin with. Put anything you want on the front. I agree that some normal caution is a healthy thing on a fresh set of tires, but unless you're putting a dramatically stickier tire on one end or really riding hard, at the limits of tire adhesion, it's just not that big a deal. I've run half worn 50/50 tires on the front and new 90/10 on the rear and it's just not been noticeable. This would be more of an issue off pavement. But if you're running 023s, you don't do a lot of off pavement, so no issue.

My $.02 is all about pillions. If you mainly ride solo, either will do. If you ride mainly 2 up the heavier duty tire will serve you better. My experience being with Michelin PR2 on an FJR. Of course, my advice, like most on Forums is worth what you pay for it. JSNS

I thought the BT-23s had been superceded/discontinued. I liked them on the ST1300.
