Hi, i have a tapping noise that sounds like its coming from the top left area of the engine while the bikes moving, The noise doesn't seem to be the cam chain tensioner witch seems silent on start up and when running. bike is a 13 year with 35.000 miles. any info appreciated.

Has the exhaust pipes been fooled with in any way? Probably not the case, but if so history over the years has been most ticking is exhaust leaks from "upgrades".

At slow speeds near lugging, you can get a slapping noise, like what I imagine you are describing o_O, coming from your drive train.

With your machine on its center stand, and with the transmission in gear, using a tape measure along the edge of your tire, using your hand, rotate the tire back and forth from lock to lock, check the free movement of the rubber edge of your tire. If this movement is around 2 inches, your drive train is fine but this slapping noise can be coming from there.

Solution: Ride like a boss and don't lug. Now go have a good time on your Super-T!

in short no, bikes got 65 thou and it still makes the noise. i guess it must be normal.
with 35,000 miles and now with 65,000….if you already did both valve checks….it would give some peace of mind. If with 65,000 miles, you never checked the valves, and you have a knock....the peace of mind changes to a pregnancy test with the least suitable person:)

Riding my bike, my best guess for the sound my bike makes is that of the valve train. I am guessing the valves closing. I can give it gas and it goes away. I can close the throttle and it goes away. Something to do with the speed of combustion. This is on a stock ecu. Long time ago I was working on lawnmowers and while adjusting the carb at certain settings I could hear the valve closing. To rich or too lean it couldn’t be heard. For some reason the st is really loud.

course this is all conjecture.

If you listen carefully you can hear the valves sometimes. I’m not totally sure if it’s a loose valve or a tight valve. But I’ve noticed ticking before, performed a valve check, adjusted the valves, and after that tick is all but gone.
A tick could be an extra loose or tight valve.
