Throttle sync

Thought I’d have a go at syncing my TBs. Dig out my old Carbtune gauges and set about it. No matter what I tried I couldn’t get them to sync. I now suspect that either my carbtune gauges are defective (maybe a spider has crawled into a tube and made a nest) it the previous owner has messed with the right hand air screw (painted white) and that’s why I can’t sync properly. If the later is the case how can I reset the right hand screw to where it needs to be?

You may find this helpful - 3/4 out seems to be the rule ................. https://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?threads/airscrew-adjustment-to-fix-off-idle-stumble-and-throttle-body-sync-w-pigtails.1973/

You don't mention the age or mileage of your bike, or whether you have an off-idle stumble. With older bikes, where maintenance levels/standards are uncertain, you will need to check for any air leaks between the TBs & the cylinder head ........... https://www.fowlersparts.co.uk/parts/5944965/xt1200z-super-tenere/intake
Additionally, the small rubber test port caps have been known to perish with age.

Thanks. I took her for her first MOT today (she’s a 2017 model with 17k miles) and asked the dealer to check sync at the same time. He reported that the sync was spot on so I asked him to re test but syncing on the right side with 3/4 turns out which he did. She certainly runs smoother just off idle now but there is still a stumble. So I’m looking at getting the ecu flashed on the Dyno at a local tuner called Dynotech. They will switch off the Lambda sensors and alter the fuel map to run smoother at low speeds below 20% throttle, reduce cooling fan cut in to below 100c and increase economy above 20% throttle. Sounds just what I’m looking for.

That's the trouble with Euro4 compliance MattR. Earlier S10s are all Euro3 with diagnostics display on the dash, rather than OBD1.

Personally I've never experienced much joy with ECU flashing, or dyno set ups on big twins. They are notoriously difficult to fine tune at the bottom end of the rev range, so all I got was shifting, rather than eliminating, the glitch along with a bit more top end punch that I could never actually used outside Germany. Never tried it with a Euro4 bike though, so good luck with Dynotech & make sure your dealer doesn't overwrite their work.

Thanks, I’ll update when I’ve had it done. I’ve not used Dynotech before but they seem very knowledgeable. I had my zx14r done by CJS and am very pleased with the outcome.
