Throttle pinned itself!!!

So I was riding along at about 40mph in 4th, downshifted to 3rd, the bike itself raised the rpms to about 4500-4700 and stayed there. The bike began accelerating obviously and I was coming to a stop. I was never in any danger but can someone tell me what the heck would cause this? Once I pulled the clutch in, I came to a stop just fine but the bike was still revving 4500 with no hand on the throttle at all and the throttle was not partially turned, as in stuck from returning, the throttle was all the way forward, with zero rotation. I blipped the throttle to see if it would settle, nothing, I did it a second time a little more, nothing, the third time I twisted the throttle the entire way and the bike came down off 4500 and settled into a normal idle. Weird. What would cause this?

This is a 2019, with 12,600 miles and this shouldn't matter but it was raining out.

Thanks, Rick

No idea what caused it, but almost sounds like a GEN I no idle / high idle scenario. GEN I issues were taken care of with a recall to address wiring problem(s).

Forgot to mention another symptom. Last week the cruise control light started flashing and would not allow me to set the cruise. Both times this was only remedied by turning the bike off and back on at the key switch.

You would have to check that the TPS (throttle position sensors) are properly adjusted, and are aligned with the factory paint marks. Regarding the cruise control, it can be several things, or dirty front brake switch, or the front wheel sensor, the rear stop light switch, or simply that You had pressed the rear brake, enough, not to stop, but enough to turn on the stop light ... and this causes the CC light to blink and not latch when you trying to set the cruise

Pinched or trapped cable? The cruise control issue maybe the switch on the clutch lever or it could be either of the switches on the front and rear brakes. Do you have enough slack in your clutch lever? Try a squirt of water dispersant aerosol lubricant such as WD40 or GT85.

I traded my '17 for a '19 because my '17 had 61,000 miles and I thought it was a fair price to upgrade. I was able to take every single accessory off the '17 and move them over. I did go through and try to clean my abs sensors and brake and clutch switches, but its done it again since. I have an appointment Thursday. Warranty expires next month.

Traditionally the CC problem has most often been due to a faulty front brake lever brake light switch. I wonder if the racing engine is related somehow?

Let us know what the dealer says. I had that once on my Gen 1 and never really got to the bottom of why it happened but it only happened once

Appointment is on Thursday afternoon. I have only had bad experiences with motorcycle service departments in the past.

Check your tps. If it has become loose you can get a 4000-4500 rpm idle. It sounds like what you experienced. The diag mode will show you the tps value.

Update: so the dealer did quite a thorough job. Even with the flashing CC light, no code was thrown or stored. The tech dug deeper and figured out that Idle Speed Control is giving bad data. It’s idling too low. This also explains another problem my bike had which was that it would randomly stall since new, and it wasn’t my riding. So this part may have to be purchased as the entire TB assembly. $775. Good thing it’s still under warranty. While they aren’t 100% positive the Idle Speed Control is responsible for all 3 issues, I’d say it’s very likely. The dealer kept the bike. The will confer with Yamaha and go forward from there. I’ll update when I get it back.
