Throttle Meister?

I'll be trading in my FJR in May and it has a Throttlemeister throttle locking device on the twist grip. Does anyone know if a Throttlemeister will fit the S 10? It looks like the hand guards may pose a problem. However, an old Kawasaki Concourse trick was to use a Case tractor o-ring which would roll off the bar end weight into the space between the bar end and throttle tube to provide friction enough to hold the throttle open. I may have to start looking for that old o-ring.

You already know the answer ... the hand guards will compromise the action of the device. Throttlemeister don't list the XT1200Z either. The yellow Caterpillar O ring is an option ... just not a very good one. Have you considered the Kaoko?

I have a Kaoko on my 08 KLR and personally don't care for it nearly as much as the much cheaper Vista Cruise. The Vista is a simple flick of the thumb and it is locked, while the rolling back action of the Kaoko is not so much of a one flick action. I have also had the engagement ring on the Kaoko gradually vibrate toward the closed position while riding. It didn't lock the throttle, but I would notice that gradually the throttle was getting harder to turn. Of course, the ultimate is the electronic cruise control like the one I installed on my ST1300 and there is a guy in Australia that is working out the details of fitting one to the S10. If that works out, I will go that route. But, getting back to throttle locks, if the electronic cruise turns out to not be practical, I'll first try to see if a Vista Cruise can be fitted. I also had a Throttlemeister on a previous ST1300 and it wasn't as easy to use as the Vista Cruise, so not my choice either.

I will be selling my KLR, but the Kaoko model on it will not fit the S10, so I will have to fit something else. Kaoko's are fine if you like them, but in my case, I will only use one if nothing else works for me.

That's good feedback Fred. I was never fond of the Throttle Meister and it sounds like the Kaoko has some of the same negatives. I too prefer the Vista Cruise, but Yamaha (and others) do some strange things with the throttle control area that makes it difficult to install one at times.

Agree. I'll have to take a close look at the Super Ten to see if the Vista will be practical. We will have one at our dealership (www.niehauscycle.com) for 3 days next week, so I'll check it out.

I had a Vista Cruise on my last bike, and put a Kaoko on the Tiger. I much preferred the Vista to the Kaoko. The Kaoko is just tougher to get right it seems. The Vista was perfect in that you set your throttle, hit the button, and cruise. The same quick flick and it's off again.

I will be very interested in whether the VistaCruise will fit. I am not fond of the Kaoko I have on my Street Triple. I did like the ThrottleMeister.

I have a Madco throttle lock on my FJR and am very pleased with it. Quality materials and works flawlessly.

It may work on the SuperT as well, but I will have to wait until I get mine to compare the throttle controls with the FJR.

I have a Brakeaway on my current ride, and had it for several years on my last. Next best thing to that Australian cruise control, IMHO.

After reading all these posts, I am reminded of a post on KLR.net. A member drilled and tapped through the twist grip housing and inserted a 1/4-20 nylon license plate bolt to provide friction for the throttle. As I recall, I didn't do that because it rubbed on the cable and I thought that would be problem long term. However, if the housing on the S 10 could be drilled in a place where the nylon bolt would rub on a metal surface within the housing, it maybe a viable alternative.
