Throttle cable question

Dear all.
I need a new throttle cable for my 2011 S10.
The oem part number from a local Yamaha dealer's website is 23P-26302-00
I have however found one considerably cheaper elsewhere with a part number of..
2BS-26302-00
I'm guessing that the latter is for a Gen2 bike.
Does anyone know if they are the same because I would obviously prefer to buy the cheaper one.
Thanks for any help.

Hard to say. The parts diagrams show both the throttle cables and throttle body assemblies as different part numbers for Gen I and II. (23P Vs 2BS).

You might be able to find out from the Regional Representative for your Dealer, if they will put you in contact with that person.

It might be something silly like a minor length change or a vendor change. It looks like both are normal ends.

FWIW, even the throttle handle assy is a different part number. I can't imagine what might have changed, but everything there is different part numbers, 2BS instead of 23P.

Thanks again EricV. I reckon it will be the same. Looks like they just changed the prefix to 2BS for Gen2 bikes?

I'm only seeing $5.00 usd difference in the price of the cables. Why not just put the known correct part number back on?

Yamaha typically only gives a new prefix for a different part. 2BS parts are Gen II, but the parts on the Gen II that didn't change will still show up as 23P prefix parts. The middle numbers will be the same for many of the same parts on several bikes. The 26302 is a throttle cable for most Yamaha bikes using two cables. The 00 is a revision number. In this case, no revisions. You will see some parts listed where they show the old number lined out or in red, then the new number, which is the usually the same, except for the revision of 01 or 10/20, etc.

So having the same 26302 portion only means it's a two cable throttle cable. The change from 23P to 2BS indicates it's a different part. HOW different, we don't know. I suspect they may have routed it differently and changed the length. My Gen I throttle cables were way up in the air and blocked some of the gauge cluster. I just put a loose zip tie around them to hold them out of the way. My Gen II did not have that issue.

I found this on another Yamaha Forum,
Could be helpful.

Does the Yamaha Part Number mean anything ?

It certainly does....
For a Part Number in the format XXX-XXXXX-XX-XX

XXX-XXXXX-XX-XX
The first three digits are the Model Code (every model in the Yamaha Product Line has a unique model number) all parts are given a Model Code of the first model they were used on.

XXX-XXXXX-XX-XX
The middle five digits are the Basic Code number and indicate the section of the bike that the parts belong to (i.e. 11631 - piston; 11311 - cylinder etc.). A "W" substituted in the first position of this five-digit group (000-W0000-00-00) indicates a factory assembled kit which differs in content from the original assembly used in production (i.e. 2M0-W0046-00-00 – Rear Break Pad Ass’y).

XXX-XXXXX-XX-XX
The next two digits are the Design Code and Design Change digits (so 01 means the part has had one design change).

XXX-XXXXX-XX-XX
The last two digits are the Color or Finish Code.

For a Part Number in the format XXXXX-XXXXX-XX

All these parts are Hardware (fasteners), they all start with a '9' and end in '00'.
The second and third digits tells us what type of fastener:

0 - 'various'
1 - bolts, cotter pins
2 - screws, nuts
3 - oil seals, O-rings, bearings
4 - spark plugs
5 - bolts, nuts
6 - ISO bolts
7 - ISO screws and nuts
The fourth and fifth digits tell us what material/surface finish (e.g. chromed).
Digits six and seven give the diameter (inner or outer) e.g. 08 would be an M8 size.
Digits eight, nine and ten are the length (except for '901' bolts for some reason)
There are also standard fastener types...e.g.

90105-XXXXX are Washer based bolts
90116-XXXXX are Studs
90401-XXXXX are Union bolts
99999-XXXXX means that a part has been superceded by a kit

Thanks Alan. Very useful and I think that meanx they'll be the same. Oldrider...over here in uk the prices are all weird. I can buy the 2BS one new for almost 40% less.
Money is very tight at the mo!

Update!!
I can now confirm that the Generation 1 and Generation 2 throttle cables ARE different. See attached picture.
The generation2 cable is shorter and therefore doesn't fit properly on a generation120200301_133156.jpg

Didn't I read on here somewhere that they (Yamaha) changed the handle bars? Something about the Gen II's being a different height? More comfortable? That would explain it, I guess.
