Section 2& 3 are in the done pile. Started off from Centennial after staying the night at the Old Corral motel and having breakfast at the Bear Bottom Bar. It rained overnight so there was no dust on the roads but there were some slick spots.
The ride up to Snowy Range pass was visually spectacular. I was leading the group in the morning and while trying to take in all the sights I missed the turn off for the expert water crossing section.
We decided we would just come in from the backside and just make a loop. That was a big mistake for such heavy bikes because the water crossing is a lot steeper exiting the water than going the proper direction. If your on your S10 this expert section would be worth while to avoid. Your not missing any scenery just missing crossing the river and your feet will be dryer all day.
The rest of the ride to Elk Mountain was smooth, easy and very scenic.
The ride to Medicine Bow was ok with the highlight being the old Carbon cemetery. Nothing too challenging since it was dry but there was motorcycle tracks still visible from when it was damp and it looked like the top 2” of mud was virtually impossible to ride in.
Came across a rider that was traveling north to south by the cemetery and he was running on reserve. He said that they didn’t have any gas at Medicine Bow but tho it he could make it to Elk Mountain. I guess a good reminder to get gas when you can.
The rest of the ride to Alcova had some good scenery in places, some sand washes and plenty of rocks. The road is closed by Alcova so we had to detour around to the left of the lake. That detour route should have been on the BDR because it’s a fantastic piece of pavement to ride.
Takethe time and go to the resort on Alcova
reservoir on the west side. It a cool looking lake. Not too many photos today.
