We are taking off on Saturday from WA at 06:00 for a destination of Baggs to ride the WYBDR. We are riding the whole way like some boneheads would do.
Had done the ID, CO and UT BDR’s so far. I will post up up pic’s and updates as we go.
Hoping for hot, dry and dusty vs the guys on adventure rider who hit rain and mud on Sunday.

So after 960 miles from Wast we hit Wamsutter and rode the X loop counter clockwise. All was good from the overlook and then we hit hidden mud.
The mud is like the ultimate goo.
Then from the old fort to just past the adobe ruins is sand.
If your packing your camping gear on the S10 it will be a workout.
The country inn in Baggs is a hoot with Rose at the bar. Our rooms have AC and it’s a great place to stay.
Probably a dozen bikes here for the night. The locals are digging the people and the business.C59F518C-0060-4F64-B367-9D9F9B2D5147.jpegC59F518C-0060-4F64-B367-9D9F9B2D5147.jpeg

Completed Section 1 and the views are outstanding. The expert section was a little challenging; very rocky but we all got through it unscathed.
The ride up to Badger Peak was probably the hardest part. Not much room to turn around up there and it’s covered in big rocks.

Damn! DamMechanic,

I have been wanting to do the Wyoming BDR, but continue to be laid up after a severe collision has sidelined me since July 2020. Have some fun on my behalf:cool:. Please be careful.

Section 2& 3 are in the done pile. Started off from Centennial after staying the night at the Old Corral motel and having breakfast at the Bear Bottom Bar. It rained overnight so there was no dust on the roads but there were some slick spots.
The ride up to Snowy Range pass was visually spectacular. I was leading the group in the morning and while trying to take in all the sights I missed the turn off for the expert water crossing section.
We decided we would just come in from the backside and just make a loop. That was a big mistake for such heavy bikes because the water crossing is a lot steeper exiting the water than going the proper direction. If your on your S10 this expert section would be worth while to avoid. Your not missing any scenery just missing crossing the river and your feet will be dryer all day.
The rest of the ride to Elk Mountain was smooth, easy and very scenic.

The ride to Medicine Bow was ok with the highlight being the old Carbon cemetery. Nothing too challenging since it was dry but there was motorcycle tracks still visible from when it was damp and it looked like the top 2” of mud was virtually impossible to ride in.

Came across a rider that was traveling north to south by the cemetery and he was running on reserve. He said that they didn’t have any gas at Medicine Bow but tho it he could make it to Elk Mountain. I guess a good reminder to get gas when you can.
The rest of the ride to Alcova had some good scenery in places, some sand washes and plenty of rocks. The road is closed by Alcova so we had to detour around to the left of the lake. That detour route should have been on the BDR because it’s a fantastic piece of pavement to ride.
Takethe time and go to the resort on Alcova
reservoir on the west side. It a cool looking lake. Not too many photos today.

Is this view of the range from Lobby Flats Observation Site? We used to stay up there for a week each year for about 20 years until about 2009. Did the ride up to the Snowy Range Pass stay on 130 or include side roads like Towner Lake Road? Beautiful area I'd like to visit again. Thanks for sharing this adventure.

Well just an update, Thursday we rode section 5. On a big bike like the S10, just skip the majority of the route and go to Atlantic City for a burger unless you like endless desert plains and sand. Ya the Beaver Rim is cool but if you missed it it wouldn’t be the end of the world compared what you have to go through.

We did swing into Devils Gate/Marina Cove visitor area and that was cool to experience the historical significance to the Mormon church.
The path from AC to Lander and Sinks Canyon is not to be missed, it’s the best part of that section.
For section 6 we were just going to skip the majority of it since we’re done riding in the open sandy desert and was planing to ride the paved rode to Ten Sleep and continue from there.
But a cold weather front moved in bringing rain storms into the whole northern sections. The farther north we got the worse it got. After experiencing some of Wyoming’s ultra sticky mud in the X section and in action 4 just past Elk Mountain, we had reservations about riding anymore of the BDR until the rains quit and the ground dried out.
We came to the conclusion that we were going to run out of time to complete the route waiting for better weather and riding conditions so we stopped the ride there and decided to just explore on our ride back to Washington. We’ll have to finish the last sections another time.

great info here, plan on soloing the wybdr later this month amazing insights likely going to skip the deep crossing. and will give the sand/plains a shot. other than day two solo'd the cobdr so as long as it is not super muddy sounds like i should be ok. unless you have some other gotchas to be aware of
