Till his bike falls apart on the highway and he's killed, then you end up with mandatory state inspections.
Texas has had them for years for all on-road vehicles. And I'm good with them. Hopefully the inspector finds the 1-ton truck without any brakes before it hits me. Although Texas is now trying to do away with the safety inspection but keep the emissions testing. But diesels, motorcycles, and 25+ year old cars are exempt.

This guy is simply riding his last bike he bought new, and just waiting for the new and improved 'completely revamped' Super Tenere to arrive...........

I guess he has been waiting awhile, and will be waiting a lot longer ! LOL

He is unconventional but he rides better than me. Would love to see what he could do with a real bike. You just had to be there it defies explanation.
I tried chasing down another rider on a nice set of twisties reaching speeds over 100 several times. Finally at the end of that section of road he pulled into gas station, he was riding an old Harley that looked about like that bike. Talked with him while fueling up, he had been riding that bike 30 plus years. Reminded me of when I was riding some motocross with my son I hit a big jump and my young son passed me in the air about 5 feet higher and much faster. Maybe I am just not that good of a rider.

How many times have we been stopped like a deer in the headlights, “Nice bike ……. I had a …… back in the day ……. I want to get back into riding ………. But………….. Well limp dick excuses aside for better or worse this guy is getting it done done at a high level from the lowest level of society. He has earned my respect. He could dust most of this forum with all our advantages.

As long as he has insurance for when he crashes into someone because his twine got stuck open, I support him.

I'm 99% in dude's corner; it's kinda nice to see a rider who doesn't seem intimidated by the fact that he doesn't have the latest and greatest motorcycle.

That twine assisted throttle is sketchy AF, though. Even a jerry-rigged thumb throttle from an ATV (ten bucks on Amazon) would be a quantum leap ahead. As a general rule I don't care what odd/weird/dangerous behavior people engage in as long as it doesn't risk direct harm to others (emotional distress and hurt feelings don't count), but you really can't discount that he's moving through the world on a 400 pound missile that's apparently being controlled by pulling on a string with the same hand that he's also controlling the handlebars with. If he's riding down US 50 in Nevada then go with God, brother, but I'd be a tad more concerned about him riding in traffic in the same neighborhood as I while using that particular setup. That ain't a can-do spirit, or a statement against crass capitalism, or whatever; it's just pretty stupid.

Like what we have here in NY since 1982, it isn't so bad.
Helps keep the real POS off the roads more or less....
If you look at inspection shops in NY, you'll find the odd shop here and there that's only open evenings and weekends, and these shops will pass whatever rust bucket you put in front of them (since the state workers policing this are off the clock).

Yes, there are some loopholes in the system for sure. ;)

This guy brings home a point. We ride and it is substantially riskier than a car. No amount of insurance, safety equipment can do as much for our well being as our brain and skill set. I love people who try to tell me a bike accident was not their fault. I have a creed. If I throw my leg over the bike then I am responsible for what happens. Because what ever goes down I am going to have to live or die with. It’s not just about money. Sometimes things can’t be fixed.

I always ride like I'm invisible and everyone is out to get me. When I stop at lights. I hug one side of the lane in case the fool behind me is not paying attention. I'm leaving them a place to miss me. Constant texters are the worst.
