Some pretty significant changes. Shielding rear pipe and splitting the radiator to give a cooler experience. The 790 tank design and easy access air filter. It's a very different bike.

Same HP as my 2020. For some reason that's a bit of a disappointment...for absolutely no legitimate reason at all.

I recognize the the enthusiasm of the rider in the video. I've made a lot of those noise over the last few months.

Like you need more horsepower???!!!
;)
Don't know where that bowl is but it'd be a pretty cool place to play for a day.

Need...? No, I honestly don't need more. But as you may recall, the SAS is extremely good mannered even in 160hp mode. Makes me think there's still a little room for another pony or two in there.

Like I said before, there is no legitimate reason for more.

I appreciate a number of upgrades in the new one, but not tempted. I like that my 2020 configuration had been our for a couple of years. Hoping that means they worked out most of the bugs before they built mine.

Watching this review of the '21 makes me think it could be a real contender for my next bike if...
-) my current one ever fails to entertain me (seems hard to imagine).
-) I continue to be willing to own a chain drive bike (tall order, but worth it so far).
-) They import it into the US (probably likely sooner or later).
-) It proves to be reliable over a couple of years (I'll be watching closely).

So far, and it's early, the only thing I don't like is the new cruise control. According to this video the power seems about perfect.

Watch those VA guys...they can be quite fickle.

As for this VA guy, I'm extraordinarily satisfied with my 2020. Would not consider messing up the balance of the universe and going to a 2021 anytime soon. I recognize what my bike is doing for me and my enjoyment is still on a rocket ship upwards. Don't screw it up. After a few years...time will tell. Not tempted yet, but intrigued at the future potential. Who knows...maybe my future bike really will be a Honda Monkey.

I saw somewhere the '21 could be imported in Canada in the fall. Just like the Tenere, Europe gets them before the US.

I read KTM was not importing the 2021 1290 Super Adventure S to the US or Canada.
They have unsold units they need to move. Once those are close to being gone don't be surprised if you see an early release of the 2022 later this year.

This bike is definitely on my shopping list especially after my experience on the new to me 890 Duke R.

The new SAS really does look a nice bike and the price has not gone up much. You can get older one here for £13,300 the new one is £15,000. Will have to get a test ride on one when its allowed. The older one is alot of bike for the money..

The new SAS has a lot of appeal. The new SAR is a big head turner.

I don't need the R, but it really is a stunning bike. They both are. Hope they work out to be as great as they look. About the time they are getting to the last year of this new configuration I may just be ready to make a change...maybe.

For now with the lousy weather, each bike is taking a turn on the table. DM's XT250 just came of the table, getting it ready to sell. Her GS went up yesterday and has parts coming off and going on getting it updated for her 2021 season. The SAS will be going up next. Just one shipment from England waiting to be added to the bike. More on that later. No plans for the 690 as of yet.

Winter up on the mountain has been a PITA this year and kept the SAS parked for the last 5 weeks. But the driveway is finally clear,

and yesterday's morning rain was enough to get salt off the main part of the road, so..

time to ride.

Only time for about 100 miles, but enough to realize the excitement, anticipation, and total enjoyment of the SAS has not diminished in any way. It's still awesome.

Looking forward to a much better ride year in 2021. I'll report anything that is worth mentioning (and probably a fair amount that isn't).

Let the ride year begin. Please be careful out there and have a fantastic 2021 season.

My brother in law just got a SAR, he let me ride it. Mother of God is that thing fast. I have a hard enough time riding sensibly on the S10, this thing would have my license gone within weeks. Kudos to those of you with the self control to own one!

I agree. It cracks me up when people talk about wanting more power. She has plenty enough to violate every traffic law in existence.
My line (which I came up with for my little Taco but works just as well with an ST): "Faster than a speeding ticket"

I have a local loop i do about 60 mls of country lanes with some faster bits chucked in. Generally i hit it when its quiet but sometimes i can have next to nothing in front of me. Alot of these lanes look flat but are nothing like it ! . When your cracking on the bike will move about alot ( ES hard damping ) but its so stable. I think this bike the way it carries its weight lowish just makes it feel solid. Would love a SAS and wouldnt rule one out in a couple of years but in reality im already going well and with the roads i ride alot the SAS would just smooth them out which means you can go faster which the roads wont really support which will get me into trouble !. I will probably have to get a lighter bike in a couple of years anyway so there should be some nice 2nd hand bikes around. I like the new Tracer GT 900 and the 700.
