Re: Car Tires - What people think are the negatives or want to debate

There are many, many delivery vans on the roads without incident or accident. :D
Ermmm..... correct me if I am wrong, but don’t delivery vans have at least 4 wheels and motorcycles have just 2? And I don’t recall ever seeing a delivery van leaning into a corner.

What mileage are folks getting with a CT on the rear of the S10? I got over 15k out of a Mich Road Commander Ii on the back of my S10. Happy with that but if you are getting 2x that with a CT, that would be worth taking a look.

Wasn't on an st so take it with a grain of salt. My ws60 snow tire on my Strom wore less than 1/32 in just over 10k miles over 3 winter seasons. Granted that was never highspeed ( I mean triple digits plenty at 80 though) and very rarely 2 up. Not that the load should matter much the weight rating on the tire is more than the bike can handle, it's just information. One of my buddies is getting 50k on a goldwing running a run flat tire and changing them because of dry rot.

Folks,
New to the forum.....and (potentially) new to Super Tenere.

I need to pick your brains.

I have an opportunity to purchase a gently/nicely cared for 2018 Yamaha Super Tenere ES at a VERY good price.
(A Widow selling off her husband's toys)

I want to mount a sidecar on it - a Ural-style tub.

Something from either:
..... DMC (https://www.dmcsidecars.com/)
or
..... Claude Stanley (http://freedomsidecars.com/)
or
.....The guy at LBS (https://www.lbs-usa.com/)

In a perfect world I could/would:
A. Replace the front wheel - down from 19 inch to become 17 inch
B. Replace the rubber on the front to become a Car Tire - staying at 17-inch
C. Replace the Rubber on the rear to ALSO become a Car Tire - staying at 17 inch
D. Mount a 17 inch wheel on the sidecar
E. Put Car Tire rubber on the sidecar wheel

Question(s):
Can it be done (same size CAR TIRE) on all three "corners" ?

If so - what size/sizes would work best?

'cause I really don't want to haul around more spares (other than the one around my waist <grin> )

Thanks for (at least) reading this.

175 55 17 works with no mods. You would need a 2nd tenere rear wheel for your sidecar. The front would take major fab work to get a rear wheel in there with dual discs that you would need with a sidecar. I wouldn't worry about a spare tire in 6 care tires I have never had an issue a plug couldn't fix. I would also stick with the stock front wheel and tire. You would have shity handling with a ct on the front and again a plug will fix almost anything.

Thanks for the response, and sorry for the late reply

This is good info

>"You would need a 2nd tenere rear wheel for your sidecar"
Yeah. If I needed to swap the wheels - I was simply thinkin' another 17-inch wheel....didn't _have_ to be from a Tenere.

A "Leading Link" would address the handling....I've test ridden rigs that had 'em installed - unexpected/surprisingly good handling.
BUT....if a Car Tire won't fit, then there's no point in it.

Thanks for your input !

Welcome aboard.

We've had members pushing sidecars so just use the search function and you should find some of that experience base. They've been pretty positive on how it went.

As for mounting a 17 up front, you'll need to let us know how it goes because you'll be doing something unique. My guess is that it won't be worth the time or effort.

My aux light did break off. Looking for a good way of mounting it.
This ride was about 450 miles on the super tenere, crossed over 71k miles on the bike. And 10k miles on the rear tire
