And that's why we install skid plates.

Sorry to see it. Hope you shut the engine off before anything worse happened.

The well documented glass jaw of the Tenere'. All it took was a gravel road and the front tire kicking up a rock...

I heard the "clink" of the rock and started watching the instrument panel hoping what I heard was the rock hitting the frame or exhaust. Nope, got the red flashing oil pressure light. After I stopped, I still dumped a good quart of oil out of the engine so I doubt any major harm was done internally.

Actually for a 6 year old Tenere' I'm surprised it hasn't happened sooner. Now I have to go shopping for a skid plate.

that looks expensive. Glad to hear no damage was done to the engine.. will you buy a new cover? or try to find something used?

I think the bike needs protection down there even for street use. I've done a bit of dirt/gravel riding (about 10% of the mileage so far) without issues but on a dreary commute home from work hit some kind of object in the road that rolled into my path. The front suspension took a pretty good hit and the wheel threw it up against the Ravetech skid plate hard enough to gouge and dent it. Hell of a bang noise. Hate to think if that had been the sump or an exhaust header.

...or your oil filter. Any of those would ruin your day. Even some Gold Wing riders protect their oil filter with a cover.

As much as I love my Tenere, it still both amazes & befuddles me as to why Yamaha would put the filter in it's current location. ON A BIKE THAT IS DESIGNED TO GO OFF ROAD!? Oh, well, that's why I have a skid plate. ::001::

I don't bash it over logs and rocks but got the (oem) skidplate to protect the filter and stuff from rocks on the dirt roads I ride. Hope there wasn't any other damage.
