Wrenched on boats for 20 years, always taught my customers:

port and left both have 4 letters (for learning port/starboard)

green and right both have 5 letters (for learning which color light is port/starboard)

Out of curiosity, does being a lefty present complications as a cop? Beyond the usual ones about society being set up for right handers?

Weeeell. . . . he only shoots left handed. Otherwise, he's a righty. And, we practice left/right hand shooting, because, well. . . . you never know how it's going to turn out.
In the academy, and during recurrent training, everyone has to practice shooting in different situations with their weak hand, because like was said, ya never know. Everything else is adaptable to either hand, and tactical teams practice together so much, it doesn't make a difference. I shoot right handed, but being left eye dominant, I have practiced, and can/do shoot left handed also.

My bad for not being more clear. I learned young to shoot on both sides too and that actually wasn't what my question plus you may not even know since your son is actually right handed.

I was more wondering about the possible frustrations of a lefty dealing with all the other things involved, such as computers in the car, radios, helmet straps, and all sorts of other equipment being made installed or made for us righties?

I've never thought about that. It doesn't apply to him either since he's a righty. Could you imagine if they made "lefty" motorcycles. . . . throttles on the left? Clutch on the right. o_O

as a righty I drive and steer my 4 wheeled vehicles with my left hand , not much for 10 and 2 . as a commercial vehicle operator where my right hand does the shifting , your brain just adapts . feels odd to hold the steering wheel with just the right hand or both hands for very long . but I do as needed.
off hand shooting , I need more practice for sure , black rifles shoot just as well for lefties as righty but throw the spent shells into the lefty face and arm . was thinking there was a deflector for black rifles and lefty users .
your off hand does more than you think you just don't notice it as much , I think.
poor lefty ,even the buttons on your clothes are against you. don't get me started about scissors.

I don't think I can shoot left handed, wow. Though I have discovered I've gone left eye dominant. I've actually got to consciously focus on my right eye, strange feeling.

I’m left eye dominant. Firearms, left handed. Guitars, left handed (no, I don’t play) I kick with my left foot. Write, eat left handed.
But, I throw, bat and shoot baskets right handed.
And I’m not ambidextrous. I can’t switch hands on any of this.
I blame my dad who put a right handed glove on my hand at very early age. So I grew up right handed in ball sports. My younger brother is totally lefty in everything.

If I can do it, anybody can. And, I'm not sure if I'm either eye dominant, but it's easier to close my right eye. Also, as I've got older, my left & right eyes focus at different distances.

An * doctor * goes to the US and since he cannot legally practice his profession, he sets up a business in downtown New York and puts up a sign that says: * "We cure any illness for $ 20, guaranteed. If we can't, We give you $ 100 "*.

* A lawyer * sees the opportunity to win $ 100 and walks into the clinic.

* The Lawyer: * _ "I lost my sense of taste" _

* The doctor * says: _ "Nurse, bring me the medicine from box # 22 and put 3 drops on the Lord's tongue" _

* The Lawyer: * _ "Ugh! This shit is Gasoline"

* The doctor * _ "Congratulations, you have recovered your taste. Give me $ 20" _

* The lawyer * leaves upset, and returns a week later, determined to get his money back.

* The Lawyer: * _ "I lost my memory, I can't remember anything" _

* The doctor: * _ "Nurse, bring me the medicine from box # 22 ..." _

* The Lawyer: * _ "No fuck, that shit is Gasoline, you gave it to me last week!" _

* The Doctor: * _ "Congratulations, you have recovered your memory. Give me $ 20" _

* The lawyer * leaves even more upset and returns a week later, determined to get his money back.

* The Lawyer: * _ "I have lost the quality of my vision, everything is blurry, I cannot distinguish any detail and the glasses do not help me" _

* The doctor: * _ "My old man ... for that we don't have medicine, here is a u$100 bill" _

* The Lawyer: * _ "you think I'm stupid, this is a $ 10 bill" _
