Got to meet and hang out with STORM (Steve) and COMBO (Bruce) both Super Tenere owners on the forum.. Both are really good people. Great to ride with and had a great weekend!!! Thanks COMBO for all the hospitality !!!!

Few things, I put the Heidenau K60 on for this ride. Ended up doing about 1800 miles or so. The K60 are unequivocally the best dual sport tire out. The on road is great. I could carve as hard as I wanted to in the Mountains of the Big Bend park, even fully loaded. The tires off road just just flat out awesome! Great in every way. There were a few sections that you could hit 50-60-70 Mph off road out in the desert and the tires just give you the confidence to take a 600Lbs MONSTER 70 mph.. Now that i'm back i'm looking over the tires. The front has almost zero wear. You can still see the molding "bumps" where the little rubber deals came off.. Looks like the front has 20 miles on it, not 2000... The rear looks really similar, it has very little wear on it. After ABUSING the tire off road and doing so many fast high-way miles on the rear even loaded heavy there is very little wear. I'm truly very impressed with these tires!!!!!!

The bike worked flawless. I was the most impressed with it off road. I had the rear suspension already pretty tight but we had to stop and crank up the front almost as tight as they will go. They where getting really close to bottoming out on some of the roads. After the front end was stiffer the bike was a dream!! The power off road is just absolutely crazy. I had the (S) on with the TCS off and it was just a total power house. There where a few times I was doing 50-60 and just wick the throttle and the rear end wants to start sliding out all over the place. The tire was was just burning out all over doing 60 in the dirt. It had tons of power on tap and was just BAD ASS. I think STORM and I both have a few stories of a few sections that made you go change your underwear. But over all the bike was great and is an awesome desert machine !

And for all of you that have asked about the skid plate of mine, well it works.... LOL STORM and I where heading down this nasty sand section. Its like a jeep road but deep sand and just crazy. I got all crossed up and there was this boulder about 15" X 15" and I headed right toward it kind out of control on a fully loaded ST in the sand... I smashed the rock.. Well it smashed the skid plate... LOL Just put a big dent into it. No problem at all. Never even touched the motor or any other part of the motor. He and I where both talking afterwards and making comments that if I had not had that it would have probably punched the oil filter into the motor, broke the oil pan, and probably broke the case of the engine.. It was tall enough, and hit at just an angle that the motor would have been TOAST!!! We where along way from help ! That's for sure! If you go off road, make sure you have the equipment, could be a long walk home, or a very expensive engine repair !!!!

+1 on the Heidenau K60 tires.

I ran them on my BMW F800GS at Big Bend last year...they performed very well in the deep sand and rocks of the Old River Road and were great on the pavement as well.

Did you get to ride the scenic paved road 170 along the border from Lajitas to Presidio?

We stayed an extra day and will leave in the morning. I did not hit the lotto so will have to go home and back to work. ::007:: It was great to meet Jaxon-Tabasco and Steve-Storm (good folks). We sure had a great time and I am sure will do it again. I just love this place.

Cool Pics Jaxson. You guys did good getting the Super Tenere's dirty. Wished I could have joined you guys in the dirt stuff but two up and a 600 lb bike does not work well in the soft stuff. Every time I started my bike my wife had her gear on and was setting on the back of it before I knew it. ::025::

I will post pics and vids sometime after we get home.

You guys got that right. She can hang! I don't think I would trust me as much as Pam does, but don't tell her that. ::025::

We just got home a little over an hour ago. We did a stop over in Junction yesterday due to burning up a tire on the toybox. I wish it was to ride. Great dirt roads around Junction. Did the Texas Adventure Ride (TAR) in that area for 3 years.

I will put some things together and post them soon. What a blast this trip was. ::015::

The closer we got to home the more we wanted to turn around and go back. :'(

My first YOUTUBE VIDEO.

A short one ......................NOT.

This is HWY 170 between Lajitas and Presidio.

It started out good but the case lens started to fog up as we went along. :'(

At the start of the Vid it is Jerry and Terry on a KLR followed by Jaxon (Tabasco). Later It is Steve (Storm) and Greg XR650L.

This was Pam's first trip with me to Big Bend and she loved it. Now we have to go back. Darn it! ::025::

I will put up some short ones now that I know how Youtube works. It does reduce the quality when you upload.

IL, the land of straight, flat, boring roads
Very nice, thank for that. I have ridden that road many times and really enjoyed it. The HSTA (now MSTA) has had several 3 day rallies based out of the Lajitas resort. The routine each day for my buddies and I was to have coffee before leaving Lajitas, then ride 170 to Presidio for a great Mexican breakfast, then north to the observatory, continuing CW and ending back at the Terlingua General Store where we would have a cold beer from their walk in cooler. Great fun, especially since it was held in February when it was cold and snowy up here in IL.

Is your camera mounted on your helmet?

Thanks Fred.

It was mounted on my left bar with a ram mount. I had it back and over to the left too far and my mirror ended up showing up in the bottom left corner of the video.
