I got to thinking about my 2014 Worldcrosser ... bought it with 6000 miles on, nothing in the paperwork with regards to any extras or additions i.e. receipts or anything and it does have some like a full arrow system.
So thinking about the CCT ... how can I tell if he swappped it out for a manual or if its still original? I am non too bright on mechanicals so forgive me if my stupidity offends the spanners on here ;)

Well since it's a 2014, you should have the first update on the tensioner. I am not certain, but thought that I had heard of another update later? I wouldn't worry about it!

Is the dash all lcd or is the tach analog? There's no reason for the tensioner to have been replaced so soon, even Gen I. Right hand frame rail to the rear of the plastic side cover, there's a large wire loom running behind that frame rail, the tensioner in behind/below that loom. It can be glimpsed with a little effort.

If your CCT looks like the one on the left, it's a manual CCT. Manual CCT's will have some sort of an adjustment that looks like a threaded rod, either with a nut or some type of knob.

If your CCT looks like the one on the right, it's an automatic CCT. Automatic CCT's don't have any user serviceable adjustments, so the part sticking out of the engine is usually smooth (or at least, it doesn't have anything resembling an adjustment threaded rod).cct combined.jpg

@Onenoodles - Why are you asking? And how many miles on the bike now?

Most of the CCT failures have occurred over 50k miles. Mine failed at 83k miles and was one of the first to fail. Common sense action for Gen I owners is to replace the CCT at or before the second valve check at 52k miles, unless you hear abnormal cam chain noise on cold start ups that lasts longer than it has. It's a progressive thing and you will usually notice it getting louder well before a failure. I wear ear plugs all the time when riding, and had to make sure I started the bike once in a while w/o earplugs in so I had some idea of 'normal' noise.

There have been several superseded part numbers for the CCT on the Super Tenere, well into the Gen II years, but I can't recall reading about a Gen II failure except for one rider that didn't check his valves or change his CCT until it failed at 200,000 miles plus. With that in mind, and your proclaimed lack of mechanical comfort, just get it swapped with the current Yamaha part when the time comes.

For reference, the top photo is where you'll find the CCT on a 2014 Super Tenere. The bottom photo is a close up of what the CCT looks like where it sticks out of the engine. It's tough to see, but if you look close, you can see the outside end of the CCT.

This thread below and the link within explain how to tell if the Yamaha CCT is the upgraded part.
