It’s been 3 years since that 48 state/ 4 corners ride and a lot has happened since. Time for an update! Back in June of 2018, I sold my car, house and 2/3 of my stuff to buy a Ford Transit cargo van and I hit the road full time with my Super Tenere. I’m basically following the same “M O” of traveling around to meet up with other Super Tenere owners and ride their favorite areas. The Pacific Northwest is where I’ll be from June to September and South Louisiana from Thanksgiving to Mardi Gras.
Last summer was spent in central Colorado while Cole at www.cavevan.com was fitting out the interior with a bed, kitchen, insulation, vent fan and winch. It took him a bit longer then I had planned but was able to get 6000 miles on the Tenere riding with new friends I made.
This past year while down south, I went to all 64 parishes in my home state of Louisiana and then rode with a few Cajun Teneres. I stopped at the Overland Expo in Flagstaff on my way back to The PNW to ride with our group outside Redding California around Trinity Lake. That’s was a great weekend! The PNWSTOG (www.pnwtenere.com) has a few other meet ups over the summer too.
The first week of September I headed east to see the fall colors of the Northeast and wasn’t disappointed! Making my way south , I stopped at the Yamaha HQ in Georgia to sit on and crank up one of the two T-700 that’s are being used in the IMS shows bouncing around the country now. That thing sounds so sweet!

My 2012 Super Tenere has 85,000 on it now, it will be packed away in my storage container in Washington when the 700’s show up next spring. No plans to sell it as it’s still a great bike! I’m looking forward to loosing 100lbs though to explore deeper in the woods on shorter day trips. The #vanlife has been great so far! I’m planning to be at the rally in Arkansas next year so see y’all there! Enjoy the pics!
Come join me for a ride!

Glenn,

Cool story, idea, human adventure. You are a leader of living a real human existence through old-world-go-west-young-man ethos. I don’t know what to say???? Man, I’m jealous and inspired and am in awe all that the same time. If you find yourself on the Central Coast of California in the coming year, hit me up. I’ve got a place to park, ride and relate. You are awesome. Merry Christmas and Best wishes in the New Year!!!

10 years riding ADV!
I was reminded recently, its been 10 years when I picked up that KLR “685” off Craigslist. What a decade! So much has happened since!

It all started just before my last USAF deployment to Kyrgyzstan July-December ‘09. I went to see Simon and Lisa Thomas from 2Ride the World before I left to see their presentation about their life on the road, then once I deployed, watching videos of Charlie and Ewan ride their motorcycles around the world sealed the deal. Charlie and Ewan fanned the flames of an entire segment of motorcycle design and style of riding. Adventure motorcycling was unheard in most circles before their Long Way Around and Long Way Around TV series.

My Adventure training started pretty quickly after picking up the KLR when I got back from my deployment , attending the PSSOR Adventure camp Bret Tkacts and his crew did a great job of covering the basics. I even returned a few more times to PSSOR for more training over the years.
That KLR was a great start and took me to some really cool places. Places I couldn’t get to on my Harley, it definitely opened my eyes to what’s possible.
After 30,000ish miles on that KLR the lack of power was evident then what I had with the Harley. By that time it was 2011 and was retiring from the Air Force, there was a new bike about to hit the market and this video popped up.
It’s Nick Sanders returning to England after his Incredible Ride doing 3 laps from Argentina to Alaska, pretty much non stop. For a motorcycle to hold up like that without issues was the strongest selling point I could think of. Much better then Charlie and Ewan’s BMW’s for sure I sat on the Yamaha Super Tenere first at the IMS show in Seattle and knew that was my next bike.

It wasn’t too long after I sold the Harley and KLR to get a 2012 Super Tenere from Jeff at Sportland Yamaha in Cle Elum. From there things really took off when all I asked was to ride with others that had a Super Tenere. It didn’t take long to build the PNWSTOG from the ground up. What a great group of guys, friendships that remain to this day. Oh and the places we have traveled together!

A few years back I was asked by Jeremy from AltRider to lead a 3 day ride through the Cascades as a conclusion to their international distributors meeting. It was a huge honor to show riders from all over the world our neck of the woods.

Going to a Horizons Unlimited meet up (Training clinic from Jimmy and Heather Lewis) and hosting various world travelers really had me calling for the open road. That was evident when the Tenere Across The USA trip started to formulate in my head.

The Tenere Across the USA trip was life changing in many ways, it gave me the self confidence to change my situation and do what I want, on my own terms. It’s a great place to live! These last 10 years really have been amazing! I wouldn’t have thought my life could be this great. I’m also very thankful for all the friends I’ve made this last decade. Y’all have really made a difference! THANK YOU ALL!!

Traveling to the IMS in Dallas was about 2 things, getting to sit on the T-700 again and seeing friends in the industry. Both were accomplished! ( Long Haul Paul Pelland, John Bettencourt from Heidenau Tires, Nathan Fant of the BDR foundation,Rachel McMillan from Wolf an luggage and JC Davis from Mosko Moto) among others32AFB823-781C-4727-B48C-ADB7A445A3F5.jpegDBA7E128-BD33-4F8C-9373-C758043CAF48.jpegA69799C2-536A-4C59-B823-59BA69CB0485.jpeg5304C9B8-5BA7-45A5-A22A-AF13B407FC1C.jpegA3A3352E-5C06-46EF-BC12-6C7F94B836BE.jpegF5566006-BA59-4A90-B0BF-AE242155950F.jpegD021E3D4-CF77-4BBB-BEB7-1E0205C1758F.jpeg0D17C53A-16BC-4175-AB6B-C8D4ED8E65BF.jpeg9E9C9B05-668E-474E-A7B2-DDFB91E2E9B3.jpegFAC36FE3-75B3-4817-9CB9-CCF0B55D40CF.jpeg

Check out my tracker, it’s always on when I’m on the road https://share.garmin.com/GlenComeaux

That’s Kate, a Tenere owner in New England. She also writes for Ride Apart and did a piece on me.

She’s not the only female Tenere owner I’ve met, here are a few more. https://pnwtenere.com/2018/06/17/its-a-couples-thing/
Just saw on your tracker that you've missed most of West By-Gawd Virginny. Great summer riding.

For your riding couples list, add Dirt_Dad and Dirt_Mom even though she recently moved from her own Tenere to a BMW.
