Should I even bother installing them? I have been waiting on a warm day to do it. I had them on my old bike and loved them, kinda disappointing that many are having issues.

Yea just install. There are MANY more that have not problems. I love mine, I just happen to be one of the ones that has one that has started to peel up, but its not really bad at all. ::022::

These guys are GREAT. I sent this thread to Robbie to show him what was up as I was experiencing this issue also. This post was made just minutes later. These guys are first rate. It is great to see an American business with such a customer focus.

I agree, great customer service.
I've installed TECHSPEC on my C14 without any issues, great stuff, just not sure what is going on with the High Fusion Material.
At first I thought it might have been something I did but the second set did the same thing, now I feel vindicated....

No problems with mine(Snake Skin). Did the prep work per instructions. It was about 45 degrees out when I installed mine.

I like them!

I've been having some "fun" with my Techspecs for the Tenere.

I originally ordered a set of High Fusion extended versions.

Unfortunately, after just a few days both sides began to lift in the tight curved area of the tank.

A quick call to Techspec had an apology and a set of Snake Skin replacements on their way.

I anxiously installed them. The weather was great. ~80F. I cleaned the surface with Windex as the instructions suggested and then hit it with the hair dryer until it was just too hot to touch comfortably. On went both sides and the tank protector.

Everything looked great.

Unfortunately within a few days, the right side started to lift just like the High Fusion. Our tanks have a VERY tight curve in that area. I'm not sure the Tech Spec adhesive can handle the bend.

I sent an email to Techspec. Robbie suggested I buy 3M #80 rubber spray adhesive. After trying to find it at 4 different stores, I finally found it at a Home Depot. $15 for the can!

I peeled back the right side and cleaned the surface with some Windex again. I followed the 3M directions and sprayed both sides and let them get tacky. Pushed everything back together and then spent 20 mins with Goo Gone cleaning the excess off the tank.

FINALLY, I THINK the Tech Specs are stuck on. Unfortunately I had to add $15 to the cost for the 3M adhesive just to get them to work.

While I was installing mine I noticed the first one kept trying to come loose in the “tight curve” on the tank you refer to. I simply pulled it back off and kind of rolled it in through the curved part of the tank and they’ve been good for a month now. I hope they stay that way because I really do like this stuff!

My high fusion ones are coming off also. After a phone call I was told that they were probably going to discontinue the high fusion ones. I'm trying to patiently wait for a call back to see if they are going to replace my pads.

I got the feeling when installing mine that part of the technique should be to roll them on INTO the curved part. That is, don't lay them flat and push into the curved part because this will add some tension to the grip, and may be enough to pull them out of the curvy bit.

Not saying that's necessarily the case here, but I had one of the first sets of the FULL version (hell, I was the designer after all >:D) and 3 months or so later they are fine. I DID have a bit of lift in that area within a few hours of installing, but I just lifted the forward end again and re-stuck it - making sure to push into the curve first.

After my experience with the High Fusion I changed technique a bit on the Snake Skin.

I placed the bottom rear corner first. Then worked my way forward. Making absolutely sure everything was "stuck" as I worked forward. I paid careful attention to the curved area as I knew this was a problem the 1st time. My goal was no residual stress in that area.

I have had Tech Specs on every bike I have ever owned (10) and have done a ton of installs on friends' bikes.

This bike is the first one I EVER had an issue with.

Something to think about: when the tank is nearing empty (of fuel) the metal gets pretty warm. When you splash in that nice, cool, fresh fuel it will cause the metal to contract a bit. The Tech Specs, being black, will also warm and expand in the sun more than the tank might. The rubber will also conduct heat away more slowly then the metal. I wonder if this minute change in shape is just more than the adhesive can handle.
