I’ve just booked 3 x Saturday 4th May day ride only tickets for my usual team for this years Taffy Dakar (TD)! Still tickets left for Saturday main ride event only! Hurry only 19 approx left!

Here is the ticket link to the 2019 event https://www.taffydrwg.co.uk/index.php/taffy-drwg-tickets/book-your-tickets-group-or-single

I have a team of three including two female riders as I have previously ridden with them on the last 5 or so TD’s.
I will be on my S10 which I used last year. It’s an orienteering event with grid rrefernces and clues at that location which help to find the correct answer. Eg what’s on the tree? Depending on your off road skill level with a big adventure bike will dictate what off road lane you can or can’t do. In between each lane grid ref you can ride on all types of Welsh roads including tarmac and some forest roads in brilliant scenery. We never will win or get a high score as we never get up early enough to get all the grid references done and finished by 6 pm but it’s the taking part that counts and the profits all go to Local charities.
Any questions please ask and we have a TD Marshall on this forum so I expect he’ll update also.

Yup! I'll be there marshalling again this year, even without competing I have a real blast, the wife also runs the outside bar on the Saturday evening so I have to get drunk too!

Ive never off roaded on the S10 but used to compete regularly as a trials rider...totally different on a little Gas Gas I know but hopefully years of trials riding would help me a bit

Yes. That’s great with trials experience but yes the weight is the issue with our S10. Let’s see what we can put together some practice prior to the event on one of my Somerset/Devon C road lane tours. Or If you want to get a good insight to how the S10 copes then why not try the Yamaha Tenere Experience in Wales as that would give you a great taster. I’m planning on doing a day prior to this event just to fine tune things again. It costs £100 for the day inc pub lunch! Or you can use their S10 at increased cost.

Thanks for all that. The training day in Wales sounds interesting. It still baffles me why anyone would want to take a heavy bike like the S10 off road anyway but I might be up for it after some pondering. Let me stew over it for a while but if you chose a particular date please let me know and I'll most likely join in the madness

Ok. I'm booked in for the one day Tenere Experience riding my own S10 on April 27th which is a Friday! Cost to do this is £100.00 using my bike but I was lucky that Santa gave me a gift voucher for that!
There is an option to do day 2 on the Saturday and using your own bike for the two days is £180.00.

I am going to post up a video link to the Tenere Experience in Wales as this will get your juices flowing if you are at all interested in taking a S10 off road. This link will be on my previous thread on this subject as its separate subject from this thread!

See the Yamaha Tenere Experience link here http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=22887.new#new

Hey Stridey, I have put Avon Trailriders on mine but would imagine they are not up to the Tenere Experience, what would you think would be an ok tire to try it?

It’s a personal choice really but at least they would need to be a new set of Tourance. I will probably use some Mitas E07. I think the Experience use Metzler Karoo 3?
I haven’t made up my mind but the choice is important for grip obviously.

The difficult trails are marked on the map so those with more road focussed tires can avoid those. You could do the event without going off road but you wouldnt be able to win as you would pick up enough points but some people do that and still enjoy it. Last year there was a huge increase in the number of big attending and I expect the same to happen again this time.

The are laminated maps that get handed back in at the end of the event, GPS is a real no no!

Just under 3 weeks to go until the Taffy Dakar in the Brecon Beacons area of Wales . Hopefully the Tenere Experience training session will give our team of three a better chance this year.
Hope to meet one or two others on S10’s and of course Yoyo who is helping with marshalling.
