T mode

My 2015 S10 now has about 5500 miles on the odometer. Am I just imagining it or is it possible that T mode has gotten a bit "punchier" as the engine is breaking in?
On another note - coming back from a 2 week trip out to CO and during the entire trip I saw not a single S10 being ridden anywhere. Lots of VStroms and, of course, BMWs.

Same thing with my trip to the Grand Canyon North Rim 2 weeks ago. 3,030 mile round trip and never saw another S10.

I don't know about the punchier thing. I was thinking I'm just getting better at using the power band. I like the "S" mode more now than I did when I first got the S10.
I have 14,000 on mine now.

Mine only sees T mode in the dirt. But yes around 6k miles she really starts to smooth out.

Only have 2250 on my 2015 ES but had 52,200 on my 2012. Yes 5,000+ was a magic point for the Tenere and how it performs. I can tell the difference between 1,000 and 2,000 miles on the 2015 ES. Its finally is feeling much smoother.

Hope the OP doesn't mind, I didn't want to start another thread on a (maybe) dumb question.

Can anyone explain to me how the "S" mode works differently from the "T" mode.
I have gotten used to the Sport mode. When I first got the S10 it seemed real "choppy". Now it is just more responsive and a joy around town.

Thanks for your patience as I get to know this machine.

Not sure exactly, I'm thinking it's a lot of 0's and 1's in the ECU. But to your wrist, T Mode slows throttle response and softens the hit off the bottom. The HP output is the same, it just takes longer to get there. With a passenger, T Mode feels much smoother in gear changes and on/off throttle situations. YMMV.

Anyhow, it does feel smoother all around and T mode seems to have a bit more punch. Another thing seems to be that the rev range (upward, that is) seems to have expanded - especially for 4th and 5th gear.

only 1500 on my 2012, but I think the CSM should be the default mode! ::015::

Sorry, what's that clutch switch thing diller bobby do-hicky mod called?

CJM not CSM.
;)

It stands for clutch jumper mod. Plenty of threads about how. It removes the ECU restrictions in the lower rpm range of the first 3 gears.

Basically, the two modes change the rate by which the ECU's fuel injection map allows the injectors to respond to what your right wrist does. Note that Mama Yama put other restrictions in the bottom part of the rpm range for the first 3 gears and seems to me that Tony/AVC8130 also mentioned T mode having a lower limit for engine output at full throttle. (My memory may be about something else on the last part about whether the output is reduced.)

So for the non-technical, imagine a slope or triangle to get from a flat surface to an elevated point (max engine output power). The slope is how steeply the power output is related to you turning the throttle. T mode lowers the elevated point and softens the transition from the flat to the slope.
