Ok guys I'm in the planing stage of my retirement trip for February 2016 in New Zealand. I want to do as much of backroads as posible plus camping and no passenger. I need to decide between the 660 or the 1200. I'm thinking more in favor for the 660 as you know the 1200 is a heavy pig To pick up and with a back problem the 660 makes more sense. As most know the 660 isn't avalible in North America so I have no chance to ride a demo. So any one out there have experience with the 660?

Thanks.

Describing a feeling is a lot like telling somebody to describe the taste of an apple and I'll probably get stoned for this. Riding a 660 makes me feel like I am on a massively updated KLR650.

A local rented and rode NZ a couple of years ago and had a fantastic time. He rented a 1200GS.

I have spent several days riding an XT660 and several years on XT1200's. I would be inclined to adventure on the 660, because of gas mileage and overall ease of use, presumably through mountains. the only thing is, can you pack a 660 like you can pack a 1200.
