Here's an interesting ride impression of the new Yamaha FZ-07 twin, done my Motorcycle.com... Also mentioned is possible availability in the USA.

http://www.motorcycle.com/manufacturer/yamaha/2015-yamaha-fz-07-review.html

This is the cool little 689cc parallel twin engine that would most likely power the rumored smaller brother to the Super Tenere.

Yamaha is now selling it as a 2015 model in Canada, so the chances are good this little FZ-07 will be coming to the USA, especially since it uses the USA convention of calling it an "FZ" instead of an "MT" as they call it in Europe.

Just FYI...

I'll buy it. I said that about the 9 but I was too disappointed with the overall package. Here's hoping this one rocks.

what disapointed you with the 9?

My list was:
-ECU fuelling fixed by Stoltec for $150
-Front springs fixed to my weight, and heavier oil $100
-Rear Shock performance fixed with a Penske $1200

Not perfect out of the dealer...but close. Funnest bike I have ever ridden, comfortable, and damn quick. Now handles like a dream.
FZ7 looks like a winner.

That's the way to do it. Look at the bike's shortcomings, address 'em if they bother you, and then you have a great package. I rode an FZ-09 and thought it was a riot! I knew it needed better suspension but the basic package was fantastic: sound, looks, engine, brakes...wow!

Fact is, there are many who will fully enjoy the stock FZ-09. Those who require a little more from their bike can spend the dough and get results. It would, however, be nice if Yamaha would let us start with the basic package and option it up so we don't have to buy two sets of forks and two shocks, etc. Regardless, having a bike like the FZ-09 modded with great suspension for under $10K is pretty amazing.

That 07's twin it's a very sweet engine. I can definitely see it in a more dirt oriented S10.
Yes, this is the engine to build a dual sport around, not the 3 cylinder. This very nice little twin in a dual sport chassis could probably do some single track and not be the handful in deep sand that the heavier bikes are. I'm sure we haven't seen the last of what Yamaha is going build around this twin or the three cylinder.

I think you're right. After all, Yamaha did copyright/patent the name "FJ-09" for some reason or another! ;)

I couldn't agree more. Having put roughly 4500km on the fz so far, I absolutely love it. Fantastic city bike (added a mra touring screen, hand protectors, sw motech rear rack with givi adaptor), to make it useful.

I modded the stock pipe with great results. Free.
Modded the stock seat with a grout sponge, to take the slope out of the seat. Free!

The best bang for the buck is the ecu flash from Nick. Seriously sorts the bike. That motor is dynamite, and the low weight of the bike certainly helps.
with a long list of mods, I maybe in for $11 CDN all in. Seriously good value.
