Should the Rally be canceled, kept in April or moved to later, such as September?

I've done almost the entire Buffalo, it was the first river to get the Wild and Scenic designation. Very pretty bluffs, awesome scenery pretty much the whole way. Chance you will see elk and eagles. Chance you will see water mocs and feral hogs too. Not really whitewater, you do not need special equipment if you have some skill paddling you will probably be fine. There is significant current, falling in in April can be pretty chilly.

I've got guide books, have been leading trips for years. If there is interest, I can bring a few extra boats and paddles. Spend one day on the water, the rest of the time on the bike. I may try to tack a day on to either end of the weekend for paddling too. I'm flexible.

If anyone else wants to paddle, I can identify a suitable section, flesh out some details. https://www.nps.gov/buff/planyourvisit/maps.htm

Discussing the Buffalo River prompts me to mention, when there is a sign forbidding you to walk on a bridge (to take pictures, whatever) it behooves you to stay off the bridge. A friend was ticketed, the second time we were down there to run the river.

Cool - Thank!
Which'd be better - the glass boat or plastic? Hate to take the glass one down rapids full of rocks.

Plastic. Lots of rocks in the Buffalo.
The Buffalo National River is the first river to achieve that designation.

I use composite for almost everything, but yes, plastic boats take more abrasion. There is nothing on the Buffalo (except maybe way up) that precludes a skilled paddler from using a composite boat. That said- if you want to borrow a tandem from me- it will be vinyl.

Running a river sounds like an excellent idea. Are there places to rent?
Do a google search, lots of places rent, that makes shuttle much easier. Unless one of you guys have a vehicle along, with suitable roof racks. 16 foot boats don't fit in a pick up truck bed too well. And I sure don't know how to strap one onto my Super Tenere!

I have racks on my truck, can add racks to my trailer easy enough, haul up to 4 boats (motorcycle inside the trailer). I have tandem canoes (and appropriate gear) I can lend, you save bucks, but like I said, it can be more efficient to hire shuttle (i.e. rent). And there is the possibility I will not be able to even make it to the rally, I am at the mercy of caregivers for my kid. I'd say right now- 85 percent chance I can make it. I have a room reserved!

Use caution picking a particular trip until we get real close to April 23. Water levels and weather forecasts can change, stay a little more flexible and we can head to best sections for our skills and equipment. Late April is a good time of year, warm enough that an unintentional swim is not the end of the world, and flows are somewhat reliable.

Is there some way to have a sub-set forum list/ topic/ of people coming to the rally that also want to paddle for one of the days?

Check out Buffalo River Outfitters in Ponca Ark which is about 30 miles west (up river) from Marble Falls resort.

There are also places to rent in Jasper, about 12 miles south of Marble Falls on hw 7

Made my reservations for camping at Marble Fall today.

Reminder:

The rates for rooms and camping go UP after Tuesday, December 31, 2019.
Damn, I need to shit or get off the pot deciding on this ride. I also have a FJR rally the following weekend in SE Ohio I would like to hit. Taking the Tenere and hitting them both would be a great first out of state ride of the season.
