Super Tenere Rally Arkansas, 2020

Should the Rally be canceled, kept in April or moved to later, such as September?

Sadly, there is a lot more going on. For every death, there are likely 10-60 contaminated people. A lot of people that get this, will only have minor symptoms, or none. But that doesn't mean they can't infect others. I personally am not overly concerned. I'm not out there doing a hug-fest with everyone I meet and no one has sneezed on me in weeks.

But. My wife is a high risk person. History of pneumonia/bronchitis, over the age of 60 and a smoker. She is... somewhere between terrified and overly pro-active. And worried that I might bring something home. She won't leave our home. She'll go outside, but only in our yard, not anywhere that she might come into contact with others. Big argument today about what's reasonable and what's paranoid. Timelines from other countries suggest that now is the time we need to be limiting contact. Not later when people are found to be diagnosed. By then, they were already contagious for a week or more prior to being diagnosed.

Puts me in an uncomfortable position. Of course I care for my wife and would not willingly put her at risk. So, is going to the event putting her at risk? To some degree, probably. Is it an un-reasonably risk? Right now, I don't think so, but she does. We'll see what 6 weeks brings. I don't like being in this position. And I don't like not doing things I would normally do. But I do love my wife. And I don't want to end up being the cause of stress to her, much less illness or death. That would be a hard pill to swallow in hindsight.

My Doc told me today I am in a very high risk group for this thing, due to some other stuff I have working. So I'm staying home for a while, see where this shakes out. But we might need to look at later dates.

I asked a friend who is an RN at a San Antonio hospital his opinion on covid19 , he said he was not sure but knows it is hard on the old , he uses normal safety precautions ...... yea 35 million have not been tested , I am one of them , no cough no cold systems no fever ..... understand a bit of history in this world , something aint right here. time will spell out what this really is, till then we will persevere .

EricV - I hear your dilemma and I appreciate that would be an uneasy position to be in. I have no wise words to offer. All the best.

I'm also in the wait an see category. I'm assuming it will be over in the next few months. This weekend I doubled down and booked my Europe hotel for this summer. Still planning to go, but made sure it was a refundable booking.

As I wrote yesterday, I'm in a wait and see mode about what we ought to do and plan to take a head count in a week or two. Just checked the Arkansas Governor's website and the State is not like many in that Arkansas in NOT yet calling for large gatherings to be canceled or postponed. I spoke to our food guy at Marble Falls yesterday and they know we are still planning the Rally so far but that we are concerned.

On the positive side, we are not a huge group who will be confined to a small space for long, other than Saturday dinner and maybe some groups in restaurants. On the negative side, (1) some of us are coming from areas where the flu is a real thing, (2) we're going to be using a communal bathhouse, (3) being cold can lower resistance for those sleeping outdoors, and (4) our group has a lot of older members.

I may actually make this thing after all. I did have several events that conflicted with the rally but those have all been cancelled, so.......

If this is cancelled , I would still be up for meeting a few guys here for some off road riding and camping. We can stay 6' apart so no problem.
I just wouldn't want to do it the same week as this rally dates because my wife already has that week off so I'll be riding with her that week at the rally if we have it or probably in the area anyway if no rally.

Let me know if your interested.
I only camp, no exceptions
I would prefer packing light and keeping my camping gear with me so we can camp in the coolest place we can find when we feel like it. New place every night that way.

Yeah. That "top medical" guy that's been on the TV with Trump, claimed that the mortality rate of the COVID-19 is 10x that of the flu. We lose, on average, 50,000 people per year to the flu. I am somewhat dubious about some of the information being put out by the "experts". I saw another chart that shows tuberculosis as the biggest killer. So....what's true....what's not. I've always made a point to take common sense preventative measures to avoid illnesses. There were times that I thought that I had flu....when I actually had the flu....I realized that I had never had THE flu. And, I've made sure to get the flu shot ever since.

Pray the shutdown may only be 3 weeks!

Next Monday 3:45 pm I start 9 weeks of daily radiation treatments. But I get to skip the Thursday and Friday of the rally so I can attend. Plan to see if I can get an earlier slot on Wednesday to start down. So I really need this to happen. Something normal.

I am a volunteer driver for the local VA hospital. I am the fill in guy, locally or out of town. Previously my best week was one local day and one out of town. Picked the 3:45 treatment time so I could still drive since normally done by 2.

This week I am doing Monday (scheduled 5 people when I got there at 7, picked up 2), Thursday and Friday. Need something to do to not go crazy!
