I still don't understand why you have to connect 5 wires then turn it on to flash the indicators and then connect the remaining 3 wires! Seems an odd calibration procedure, but I did it and everything works very well.
Not sure either but the instructions call it a confirmation check or some such. I don't think it's a calibration. Maybe something will get fried if you made that connection incorrectly and proceeded with the rest of the connections without checking? I figured they had a reason and I wasn't going to second guess them and end up with a fried unit or worse something on my bike fried, so I just followed the instructions like a good boy.

@SparrowHawkxx great write up, very helpful. Noting the different wiring colors between first and second gen was perfect.

I would add that the kit I received included two thicknesses of foam to be inserted in the switch. I tried the thinner ones first, thought it was too loose, and installed the thicker ones instead. I'll follow up after a few rides on whether this was the right choice.

Again, thank you.

See Reply #24 above,
there is a picture of my Gen1 switch with a pad in the slot on the right (I used the thinner pads on my Gen1),
there is also a link to a reply in another thread that has a picture of a Gen2 switch with the pads in it.
See what you think, but it appears to me that they also used the thicker pads for the Gen2 switch.

Waiting on your follow up but its looking like the thicker pads are the ones to use with the Gen2 switch.

I’ve had the thin ones in there for a couple years now on my 2015. The only issue I’ve had and just lately is the need to sometimes press the right turn switch more than once to initiate the signal. Smart Turn System customer service thinks the pads might be wearing out and sent me a new set. Haven’t gotten around to changing them out since the issue is fairly infrequent.

Rode for 90 minutes yesterday, and I really like it. Gonna take some retraining of habits to use is all.

Ambient temps were around freezing, and the thicker pads worked just fine. I worried that they'd be too stiff in the cold, that didn't seem to be an issue.

I have a 21 and having a problem with the flasher relay wire. I can figure the right and left.

Also. Does this screw have to come out to install foam pads.
Which foam pad to use?

I found this picture in Reply #20 in the thread linked below.

The switch is different than on my Gen1, but I'm pretty sure you don't need to remove that screw.
it looks like the slots that you need to put the 2 foam pads in are on either side of that white slider at the bottom of the housing in this picture.
