I took the Tenere to the track last month and had a BLAST! It was my first time so i spent
alot of time in the classroom which i also enjoyed. I felt very comfy and i was holding my own
in the corners and 135 mph was fast enough for me in the straights!! Has anyone here
had there ST at the track and what are your impressions ? Since the value of the Gen1 has
really tanked i dont see any need to buy a trackbike and possibly buying a moneypit.
Any thoughts?

Being a track day instructor the S10 is definitely the wrong tool for the job. However if you want to test the street limits of your bike and really get to know what capability it has then the track is an ideal place to do it. May I'll take my S10 out in C group ::008::

I think that's a great idea to track your S10. Clearly you had a hell of a lot of fun.

Quite frankly, I didn't know an S10 is good for 135, so that's impressive in itself.

There's a YT video out there (is that you?) somewhere and the guy's pretty good.

Personally, I think more people should track their daily bikes simply to raise their skill level when on the road. Would make it safer there as well, for everybody.

No not me on YT . I have alot of work done to the bike : Pc flash from AC, headers , Yoshi slipon ,PC5,auto tune,Uni air filter pods and the throttle bodies are synched . I would love to go more but its a little expensive !!

Very very nice La Knee!

Which track is that? If you're in E PA, then NJMP is closest. Though I've been to the two tracks there several times, that vantage point doesn't look familiar to me.

Very generous offer. ::003::

If I still lived in Central NJ I'd take you up on it. But now I'm in Chicago.

However, if circumstances find me out East, expect to get a message. ::008::

Had the S10 on the track in Palmer,Ma. not because it is a track bike but to have conditions where I could lear it’s limits with little worries. The S10 is a versatile, comfortable, do it all bike not a track bike. But there is nothing like the great road surface and lack of cages to take any bike out and play.

I attended a non sportbike track day and had a great time, was able to hang with almost everyone except for a couple well ridden sport touring bikes. With PR4s you can get around pretty good.

I'm retired now, but I was an STT coach and novice instructor for 6 years, and a WERA Expert racer, and I wouldn't necessarily say that your bike is the wrong tool for the job. If 'the job' is learning to ride better, and have fun on the bike that you have, then it's exactly the right tool for the job. If your goal is to become a regular or semi-regular track rider, then ya, a dedicated track bike is the answer.

The way to get a track bike is to search the WERA classifieds and find someone's used race bike. My personal recommendation is an SV650, as they are ultra fun to ride, very reliable, and much cheaper to operate than a 600 or bigger. You will have to deal with frustration as you continually are faster than people on big bikes who re-pass you on the throttle, but that's part of the fun :) If you want something faster on the cheap, find an 06+ R6. They can be had for cheap, are quite fast, and handle like a razor blade.

Have fun!

As they say in the classics, "If you're good enogh, the bike's good enough".

I do some track instruction as well as off road, and now the S10 is my only 'road' bike, it gets used for that too. Gets a few funny looks when I turn up with knobbies. Working with the beginner/intermediate groups its perfomance is more than adequate. We use chalk marks on the track to assist with discussion and line selection, and when I ride the 'line', its easy to join the marks with rubber from the knobs to facilitate the process O:)
