As for the rest of you crazies (Brian's word not mine), I'm back in the land of internet, and will also have access when I get to Romney later today. I'm a bit wiser than I was when I left on Monday. I have been educated that a XT250 is not the best weapon for keeping up when deep in the mountainous WV woods with Husqvarna FE 501 piloted by a skilled rider. It's like bringing squirt gun to an artillery battle...but that's another story.

Weather...we're not a washout. Looking at Weather Underground (WU) there is forecast to be a light steady rain (.05 inch per hour) Thursday and Friday. It doe show the weather clearing to mist/drizzle (.01 inch per hour) by 8am Saturday, and by 10am on Saturday we should be dry. IF that holds, I suspect Suzuki probably be running the demo rides around noon. I don't speak for Suzuki, but that's my guess based on previous behavior. WU does show a brief possibility of light rain Saturday after 4pm for a couple of hours with rate at .01/.02 per hour. Of course if the afternoon rain does appear on Saturday we'll have the Romney Cycles sponsored meal inside the dealership. I'm pretty sure the GM told me that is to be held at 5pm on Saturday. I'll post if I have that time wrong.

Again, IF the forecast holds, riding out to the SW of Romney early on Saturday would likely get you into clear faster. North and east would leave you in it longer.

To remind everyone what Checkswrecks said before, beware of water crossings. This area has seen a huge amount of rain in the last week. Water crossings could be far faster and deeper than usual. Use extreme caution when deciding if you should cross or turn around. A formerly easy crossing could be dangerous at the moment.

Ride safe and see you soon. I'll be out there before 5:00 today.

How many Tenere riders does it take to setup a tarp on a perfect evening?... More than you think.

Evening one is in the books. Had a good turnout already and it doesn't even start until tomorrow. Weather has not be much of a factor so far. We are well represented by Iowa, Ohio, NY, Canada, and us locals. Weather was a bit of light rain early the in the day, not bad at all and lovely overcast evening. It's going to be a good year.

Checking the weather app this morning I saw the welcomed words "Rain ending at 6:30am." I think we can handle that.

So far we've had 40 people sign in and I know there are more that have arrived not yet had a chance to sign in. I would anticipate more people arriving today. The weather yesterday was far from ideal, but you wouldn't know it by talking to the people signing in. I just saw a bunch of people who arrived with a smile and were happy to be here, weather be damned. I was fun to watch.

Breakfast service should start at 7:00am this morning at the food truck. Diner will be at 5:00pm. If the weather holds as predicted, we'll do it outside. Kids from The Potomac Center will be over at 6:00pm. Anticipate they will be sitting on bikes to have their picture taken. The plan is to get photos developed and given back to the kids to keep. As mentioned before, we will need some volunteers to provide bikes for the kids sit on.

Reminder, the big raffle prize this year is the opportunity to walk through Romney Cycles and select any riding jacket, helmet and gloves from the rack in the dealership. This terrific prize is likely be the highest value prize ever given away at the Camp N Ride, and is actually sponsored by one of our riders who chooses to stay anonymous. Thank you, Mr. Anonymous...you're a very generous person. We also have 3 nice jackets sponsored by Kawasaki, and there will be additional items sponsored by Yamaha. Thank you to all the sponsors for participating in helping us raise money for The Potomac Center. 100% of the raffle ticket sales go to The Potomac Center.

Once the roads dry off today I expect Suzuki will start running the demo rides. I would expect Yamaha will also start the demo of the Venture bike they brought to the event.

Going to be a great day to ride. If you're nearby and still thinking of joining us, please do.

Had my shifter break from a hiccup on a dirt road (a weak weld on my chopped and extended lever) Folks at Romney offered to pull a part off a brand new 2018, talk about service! I couldn't justify the part cost though and decided to cobbled together my own solution of JB weld, rolled beer can, and a bit of wire. Thanks to everyone for the help and fun side commentary.

Thank you all for the help, got the plug. Also Romney was awesome in accommodating me. They pulled the plug off a new bike since they didn't have any in stock.

I went down and the bike landed on a rock, Without the skid plate and crash bars the bike would have been totaled (frag'd engine and electronics). Should've had the weight to the rear and steering with the throttle. Took out the oil filler cap, bent the mounting tabs for the crash bars and the crash bar and dinged up the skid plate pretty good too. This is where Rumbux or a RideonADV skid would have likely fared better. This isn't the first time I've been down on that side, i'be gotten my moneys worth out of them.

The Fix: (only managed to get it out about an inch)

Home again and below are a few photos. Thanks to everybody who came and very glad that folks still got in some riding on Saturday. I didn't get any real riding in so will let others post photos of that. Super glad to have no major injuries or damage. There's a SmugMug folder which anybody can upload to share or to see more of my photos here:https://rswaim.smugmug.com/Places/TRIPS/Romney-2018-Wreckchecker

Thanks to an individual member of the forum, our grand prize winner got to roam the store to pick a helmet, jacket, and gloves. Congrats!!!

Holding court in the peanut gallery.

Everybody had fun when the Potomac Center kids came to visit:

btw - Somebody brought an entire box of brand new Matchbox cars and those were the absolute #1 hit with the kids. THANKS!

This is normally trickling along, about 3 feet wide max, and the trail is normally tame enough that we've used it in previous years for teaching off-road skills. Walking it before trying the bike on Saturday morning, there were new angled ridges, the slowest area had lots of new baby heads, and the water was fast enough it was able to push a foot out from under me. Note the waterfall at the left. Being alone, discretion won out and I turned around:

Warm dry place to hang out:

BigBob makes damn good pancakes - even in bed!!!
