It's official. The weekend event started by dcstrom and Romney Cycles back in 2012 is happening again. The date has been confirmed and they will be holding the “3rd Annual Camp N Ride” on May 2-4, 2014.

If you were one of the 29 riders that joined us last year you already know the guys at Romney go out of their way to make us feel welcome. They remain interested in growing their involvement in the Adventure market and are once again looking forward to hosting the event again in 2014.

When: May 2-4, 2014

Where: Romney Cycles in Romney, WV
What: Camping on the grounds of the dealership, or staying at local lodging. Then riding some fantastic West Virginia roads.

The normal schedule is most everyone arrives at some point during the day or evening that Friday. Saturday is ride day, and everyone headsed their own way on Sunday. The dealership provides the camping area in a nice field next to the dealership, portable toilets, a shower, water, ice, a coffee maker for the morning, plenty of wood for the fire each evening, and they fed us on Saturday evening. They also worked out a group rate at one of the local motels. They are always open to making things better so if you have any ideas please share them here, they are open to suggestions.

For the non-campers
Koolwink Motel
South Branch Inn
We had a rider stay at Koolwink last time. He seemed pretty happy with it. I also believe that's the one that will have a group rate.

As far as Saturday rides, it's open. Last year several guys ventured off on their own, others formed small groups, and some joined one of the two group rides that were pre-planned. I will plan to lead a ride again this year, and will be flexible with what type of ride I'm leading (all street vs dirt/street mix vs more challenging dirt). I'm happy to lead a ride, but if we get the size of group or bigger than we had last year, it will be a good idea for those veterans of the area to have a route in mind (or in GPS). At some point I'll be trying to recruit some of you to plan to lead a ride. Friday night fire is a good time to workout ride groups for the next day.

Romney is centrally located to a lot of great riding. If you do want to explore on your own here's a few ideas along with the approximate mileage from Romney.
65 miles Rt 72 video
83 miles Spruce Knob
54 miles Dolly Sods
16 miles Oldtown Low Water Bridge video
57 miles Black Water Falls
62 miles Seneca Rocks
52 miles WV/VA Border Crossing near Mathias, WV
74 miles Harpers Ferry video

If you want to bring your significant other, but they don't want to do a day ride with a bunch of sweaty guys, the scenic train is less than a mile from the dealer.
Scenic Railroad
The Apple Blossom Festival was enjoyed by at least one of the spouses at the event last year.
41 miles Apple Blossom Festival - Winchester, VA

Romney Cycles will want a ballpark figure on how many to plan for, but obviously it's way too early for anyone to commit this far in the future. When time gets closer I'll try to get a headcount. But until then post up if you think you may attend, have any suggestions or questions.

So mark your calendars and plan to start your early spring season in beautiful West Virginia.

This following is not an obligation, more of a way to see how many and who may be coming. Post to this thread or send me a PM and I'll add/remove you from the list. When we're a few weeks out we'll try to get a more official headcount so Romney can make their plans.

Well DD, I made the first ride but was unable to attend last year :( So, I've marked my calendar and going to go for it this year.

Looking forward to seeing a lot of new folks this year.

By the way I attempted to use the count link but I was unable to get it to work. Now that could be a result of my low tech skills.

Alan, glad you're coming back. I tried to do something with a poll, but obviously that was the wrong tool for the job. Not sure how to setup a counter, so I'll continue to update the original thread as people post their intentions.

I'm a definite maybe... I really want to do this but time will tell. If I can go I would be riding road and some easy dirt or gravel roads. I watched the WV to VA video and think I could do that as those roads look just like many of the ones I ride around here where I live.

Spring is rough for me so I haven't made it yet but this year I have incentive. I need the valve check performed and planned to have it done at Romney anyhow. Downside is that I'm at 23K and know my riding style tightens the exhaust valves so might have to get there sooner.

Anyhow put me as a MAYBE...and a MAYBE for my KLR riding buddy.

Thanks to Romney for hosting this again

I haven't been able to make it so far, except that I picked mine up at Romneys. It's a bad weekend for me. My sons birthday is the 3rd.
One of these days I'll make it done for a long weekend. I'm planning a trip to Kentucky though in July for a week long tour with a bunch of other guys. No Tenere riders though.

I do like seeing all the familiar names returning for another year. That says something to me about what Romney has created with this event.

That's easy, Bob. This is a Tenere event for me, and I suspect it always will be. All the options I know in this part of the state are all Tenere passable. If this were a ride down south in WV I suspect my answer would different.

By the way...when I get a chance to take a breath I will be getting in touch. I suspect you know why. ::001::

Perfect.. I already put in for those days off so I will be there. It's because of last years rally and talking with all you Tenere owners and a good deal by Romney that I will be back, but this time on a Tenere.. .. I have a couple local friends with Teneres who may come but they have more complicated schedules so they will now closer to the rally.

I will try to make it this year and drag the fabulous Baker Bros with me. They still talk about how Romney Cycles and Dirt Dad went the extra mile.

It was fun having them out there. Still the only ride I've ever done with someone smoking while simultaneously moving along pretty damn fast on a scooter. Look forward to the Baker Bros coming back and dragging you out this time.

Geeze I feel bad for you guys - being so busy that you can't pencil in a great weekend at Romney 5 months in advance. My schedule is open, unfortunately I'm on the wrong continent. C'mon, commit, you won't be sorry! ;)

I'm counting about 37 responders so far. Not a bad start. But only about 20% of those are Teneres. Definitely would like to see as many S10 riders as we can get.

Trevor - fun to see how this gathering you started 2 years ago keeps growing. You had a great idea. I know you can't come back for it, but we do miss having you around. Hope all is well.

Add another S10 rider... I'll try to be there. My wife is interested too as long as her Moto Guzzi Griso is allowed (obviously not on any trails).
