Does anyone know if the digital speedometer on the S10 can be "toggled" between MPH and KMS ??

The owners manual that is available on line, indicates it is possible for the "U.K. Models only". Since we have not seen the true US model, it is too early to tell if our version will switch as well. I for one hope that it does for my trips into Canada.

I will be purchasing my S10 in the USA and will be driving it back to Canada where I live.
I am almost certain this can be done. Cars sold here in the states come with both in case we cross the border, so I'm guessing the S10 will too.

Thanks for all the feedback.
I too believe it only makes sense that it can be done.
After-all the console is digital and it is software driven.
I can't imagine they would create separate inventory (console units) one for each MPH and KMS

Can anyone confirm that?

I perused the Internet for an extensive period regarding buying a bike in the U. S. and bringing it to Canada.

I emailed the general info contact on a Transport Canada website and I got a response saying that the motorcycle must have the speedometer in km/hr. The odometer can be whatever but the speedometer must show km per hour. It can show both km and miles, as long as the kms are there.

That being said, I also found a lot of contradictory information. Your best bet is just to contact Transport Canada directly and find out what the deal is as of right now.

I was assured by my local Yamaha dealer that warranty would not be honored in Canada. I have not confirmed this with any other dealer, but that seems to be the general consensus on the Internet. Apparently (so I read), Yamaha Canada and Yamaha U. S. are basically two different companies. They don't even have the serial numbers of the bikes from the other countries in their respective databases.

My Honda dealer also told me that if I ride my Canadian ST1300 into the U. S., my warranty would not be valid. He said to get the part number and any additional pertinent information and he would do what he could from this end when I got back.

I dunno. Depends on who you ask, I think. I have made the decision to buy Canadian. If I had the time and resources to go into the U. S. and do this, maybe I would. But I don't. That's just my decision. For those of you who buy from the U. S., I wish you luck and hope it works out for you. It may not be that big of a deal. If one of you guys chooses to do this, please document it from start to finish. If it is prudent to do this, then next time around maybe we can blitz them. RR

Yamaha is trying to stop grey market bikes just like all other dealerships. Harley is trying to do the same. I think our best approach is to lobby our Canadian dealerships for reasonable discounts either on the MSRP or after purchase accessories. I believe the inflated Canadian price is due to middle man brokers like the Deeley family and Harley Davidson. If we continue to press our local dealers and express our disappointment with the deferential between the US and Canada they will start to get the message. I have forwarded my dealer several websites showing pricing in the US well under the US MSRP.

To the OP I bet the digital speedo can be toggled - most can be on other bikes including Harleys.

2014 Super Tenere changing mph to kmh

Has anyone found out how to change it. There nothing in the manual on it. You can see it on the instrament cluster if you look at and angle kph is just below it.

Push the left button until the odometer is showing then hold the button down.

My bad....I answered too soon...was thinking of my 2012. I'm assuming the procedure works the same....press the button that displays the odometer mileage reading and then hold it down. YMMV.

Don't know about the 2014s but on the Canadian model 2012s/2013s you can't change from kph to mph. You can on the American models.

On the new model 2014 es hold the menu button in for approx 3/4 seconds. A new screen comes up with menus for units. Scroll to it and select new unit whether mph kph. return to menu button and hold 3/4 seconds and the change should take place.

It appears that this is not possible on the Canuck model unless it is hidden elsewhere in the menu.

Guys - it's there somehwere. Follow the proceedure shown above (fjrden). See page 3-20 of the owners manual

Can't believe Yamaha would go to the trouble of programming out this function, it would seem pointless.

There might be wire you have to ground to enable the function. Sorta like enabling the CO function on 2013 and prior US spec bikes.
