Interesting character. I suspect Oakland/Phoenix will see a celebration of his life....probably a global event.

I read a lot about Sonny Barger when I was a schoolboy back in the 60’s and later in the 70’s I loved the thought of the lifestyle but not the criminal aspects of it. A few of us fell in with a chapter in U.K. and they were thoroughly decent people and we had a blast but never hurt anyone else. I remember one time when we ended up in a wedding reception, none of us knew any of the wedding party but we were made welcome and everyone had a great evening, us in our chapter colours and all these people in the wedding finery. Good times!
Growing up in California, Barger and the Angels in general did the public and the M/C community no favors.
Interesting person? Yes
Colorful Character? Absolutely
Worthy of emulation? Never
One for our condolences? No,
What ever his redeeming qualities, they were heavily outweighed by the wreckage Barger and the Angels left in their wake. Some of the worst damage derived from the rivalry between the home chapter, San Bernardino and Barger's Oakland chapter
