I was planning on the Bend OR (Madras) area and recently discovered everything in the area has been sold out for 9 months and the city expects a millions people. So what would that be 350,000 automobiles on a two-lane (OR-26) highway. I don't think so. Doesn't look like many locations to camp off of 395. "Discovery Road Trip".

Anywhere within a 3-4 hour ride of the eclipse path will work. Ride somewhere out in the country along the path, park and watch the event and 2-3 minutes it is all over.

Here is the problem. If it is a popular location the roads have a high probability of being grid locked and you won't be able to get to a good location. From what I have read if you are not on the center line the viewing drops off quickly. The Madras OR area I mentioned previously is a perfect location for viewing. It is flat for many miles though I am not sure where if there is sufficient off road parking. There is a small airport. Gotta wonder what the eclipse would look like from a small aircraft.
