So yesterday, I decided to go for a ride...

The first 900 miles was all smiles (well mostly - I dumped it sideways at the second gas stop, while documenting it. No harm to me or the bike). The local forecasts were calling a few showers, so I threw on the rain gear at the fourth fuel stop, and as promised, east of Quebec City, the rain started. It rained for the next 600 miles. In the dark. 45-50 degrees. I finished the ride in 23 hours, 15 minutes.

To make things interesting, after the fifth fuel stop, i decided to put on the throttle rocker, after all, it had been almost a thousand miles, my hand needed a rest, and the rain mitts a made it even harder. A mile down the road, I found it to ba a little close to the throttle lock, so I started messing around with it. Knocking my phone out of the Ram mount X cradle. I only noticed when the music in my Sena stopped. By the time I got turned around, it had fallen victim to the Highway 40 blues. So no phone, and the lovely Mrs. RogerRZ would have lost it if she tried to text and got no answer, so at the turnaround spot in Drummondville, in addition to fuel, I needed to get my iPad connected to wifi. That done, I pointed it home.

Some insights:

My waterproof gloves, weren’t. Neither were the overbooties.
My heated jacket didn’t. (I checked the cord for length, not fit).
My waterproof boots were (thanks Gore-Tex).
Pinlock fog proof visors aren’t.
Bose noise canceling earbuds do (until the battery, and the backup dies, two hours from the end-too cold and wet to dig it out and change it).
LD Comfort gear works.
Airhawk pads are good, but Russell will be getting money next Winter.
As will MC Cruise.
Super Teneres bring home the bacon. It just did, all day long. A Gold Wing might have been a bit more comfortable, but wouldn’t do much in the Fundy Adventure Rally in August.

IBR Competitors are tough. Really tough. Hats off to them for stringing a half dozen or more of them in 10 or so days...

Good job on getting it safely to the finish. A BBG is a tough ride under any conditions. The pins for the pinlock insert are eliptical. If you're getting fog, it's often because there isn't a good seal to the insert. Try playing with the pings until it looks like it seals better to the visor. Do remember, the silicone bead goes against the visor. Just saying, more than one person has put it in backwards. Never mind the fellow that didn't know it had a peel off layer and complained it was like looking thru a coffee can lid...

Man, I don't know if you're bad ass....or crazy....mixture of both. Well done.
Thanks. Mostly crazy, mixed in with weaksauce. I grabbed two hours of sleep yesterday morning, and spent the day with the lovely Mrs. RogerRZ. I went to bed at 2045hrs, woke up at 0630hrs. Nine hours, 45 minutes of sleep. I never do that. Seven hours, max. This morning, phone replacement quest (I suspect it will be more miserable than riding 600 miles in the cold dark rain)...3CCAE891-2571-42DF-9122-72207A207C5A.jpeg

I'm going to take a good long look at yours, because I will NEVER be receiving one on those.

Edit: I just realized that I had not congratulated you. Well done.

Never thought I would, either. 15 hours in, raining buckets and 48 degrees. One of those clench your teeth, and git-r-done moments. I'm quietly looking at maps, planning next Summer's epic voyage. Pretty much have it narrowed down to a Great Lakes run, or a Halifax-Vancouver-Halifax adventure. Depends on what the Lovely Mrs. RogerRZ decides to do with her vacation time...

1000 mile Iron Butt will be very easy on a Super Tenere. On a dirt bike it's way harder. In fact I was pissing blood after mine!

I can't even imagine. Those times on the bike & distances wouldn't work for me or my back.

Does it feel weird to _not_ be moving at the end of an incredibly long day like that? Being stationary must feel weird...

Neither will I. But congratulations to RogerRZ on the accomplishment.

If I found myself there I would have just pulled into the Tatamagouche Train Station Inn and relaxed in a cabose for a while. Of course it's probably closed like every other place, so maybe I would have been riding.
