I sold the S10 after 20,000 miles in 11 months and went back to BMW. I liked the yamaha but as always when I try a new make or model I say the same thing, " Its a nice bike but still does not feel like the BMW". I love the reliabilty of Yamaha and dealer network but it does not have the feeling. I know all the down sides to BMW, this is my 16th GS, its like that smoking hot girlfriend that treats you like sh++, you never want to go back but the sex is great. I went old school this time, the older ones have a better rep. I bought a 2004 R1150GSA with every option on the market. From the first mile I put on it yesterday it feels perfect. Now I know the day I have my first problem I will be saying MF MF MF MF MF MF I hate this POS of sh## I will never buy another one as long as live. And yes I will post that day.

Good luck, Kraig in your search for "character" or whatever. We are gluttons for punishment. 20,000 miles in less than a year... looks like the S10 felt pretty good!

Good luck with your new bike! ::008:: The 2004 was mostly only available with servo assisted ABS, does yours have servo's?

If you want character, should have gotten the Ducati MTS. I love the engine/power, but sure as hell won't get 20,000 in a year without shelling big bucks from maintenance and parts.

Good luck and be safe (until you inevitably come back to an S10). 20K miles in 11 months! ::003::

Not every bike fits everyone, and thats why they make different ones. . . Its your money, and you should get what you like. And you don't have to justify it to anyone. I hope you enjoy your new ride :) :) ::021::

No big deal, it's not the make or type it's that we all ride. Hey let us know how the S10 compares?

16th GS? Sounds like you know better than anyone what you're doing getting another GS. Happy trails. Enjoy the ride.

I rode two friends' '08 GSAs and couldn't wait to give them back. Felt ginormous and top heavy at parking lot speeds, awkward doing u-turns. Proved to be faster in highway roll-ons but felt more lethargic in the lower gears. Just goes to show how one man's trash is another man's treasure. Enjoy your new ride. ::008::

I love to ride, my goal is 20,000 a year. I have owned 60 or so bikes and I think I enjoy the hunt for just the right feel and never seem find it for one reason or the other. The next bike on the list is the Moto Guzzi Stelvio NTX. I am going to wait till next year when I can find one with a few miles for a great deal.

Have never ridden an 1150GSA but did have a lot of great times on my 1100GS, except the time the hall sensor left me stranded. ;) The Stelvio is a good looking bike and I've always loved how the Guzzi motor growls like a V8.

Good luck, kraigd dude. You gotta go with what works for you. Safe riding and let us know when you have to have a Tenere again. All the best. R ::008::

I have a yearn for the GS1150 myself. But only because I know it's the closest thing out there to my S10. I suspect that I would really like it.

But I would have to have both. Cuz they aren't ever gettin my S10.

I know those BMW owners really love those things, but I felt the 1150gs was like a porpoising whale. not my bike.

I still have my 1100GS and am a little concerned about Hall sensor failure, how did it it mainfest itself, were there any tell tale signs before it failed?

And I can see how one would miss a GS as they are quite qwerky, I still love to ride mine even though I am smitten with my superten.

It didn't manifest itself at all. I parked outside my sports club, when I came out a couple hours later the bike wouldn't start. Same thing happened with my R1100RT, only this time I got lucky and it happened in my driveway. Fine when I pulled in, wouldn't start in the AM. Both bikes had 30,XXX km on them, but in Japan a lot of that would be city riding. Apparently heat takes a toll on the wiring insulation till one day the wire fails. I didn't know it at the time, but you can do preventative maintenance. http://bmwsporttouring.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=562390&page=1

Googling R1100 hall sensor repair and so on will turn up more results.

This may be the case in the dirt. But on the street, it was one of the best bikes I've ever owned. Just sayin.

I think if I ever went back to BMW it's going to be an 1150 GSA as well. Used and broken in. I'll just plan on an FD replacement in my costs.

Enjoy.
