So I sent my seat in to Russell Day Long

...and until I get my seat back, I’m stuck in a cage, turning my motorcycle commute of 1 hour into 2 hours.

Anybody have some creative ideas on how I can ride my bike without a saddle for a couple weeks and therefore reclaim a few frazzled threads of sanity? ::010::

Padded bicycle shorts? Menards has one of those pads for your knees that you kneel on when gardening? Those two together and some duck tape should do it

Take your pick: a block of foam, upholstery foam, or a pillow. Attach with a roll of duct tape. :D

I would have bought a cheap seat on ebay or borrowed one. No way I would go without one . You could also stand up the whole time .

Signatures ??? we don't need no stinking signatures !!!

When I did this, I bungee corded a small pillow in place.. it worked fine for a few days of riding. I have a Day Long seat also and it's well worth the effort.

I had the same idea, as well. Just wanted to see if there were other solutions available. Just out of curiosity, did the bungee cord damage any paint or other items on the motorcycle? I presume not, but I’m a little paranoid about this.

Prior to my S 10, I had a BMW R 1200 GS with the daylong seat. It was marvelous – – certainly better than what I have now.

Upholstery foam is probably the best option, as the wife isn't going to be too keen on me slapping a pillow on top of the bike.

Thanks. I find myself wondering if the duct tape adhesive would potentially damage the finish of the motorcycle. Maybe my fat arse alone will hold things in place.

I doubt that I could stand on my chicken legs for that long. And yes, another seat would have definitely come in handy, were I not such a tightwad. I guess my sphincter muscle tightened up at the prospect of spending more money over the daylong seat.

The bicycle shorts I already have. I’ll have to look into the knee pad. Thanks for the suggestion.

Get yourself a boat cushion one of those square shaped PFDs with the loops on 2 sides. A couple of ROK straps to hold it on and go riding. It will probably be more comfortable than the stock seat!

Well Duh, use your other seat! ;D Yes, really. Take the pillion seat and mount it backwards. Stuff a magazine or something under in the tool cubby to help support a little. I did this when I sent my seat to Russell. It's surprisingly decent to ride on.

If you sent both seats in to Russell, that solution won't help much. :-[ A sandwich of foam, some cardboard or a stiff old magazine and a big ziplock or vacuum shrink bag from the dollar store and some duct tape would be my next suggestion. Maybe a small pillow from the resale or thrift shop to help with your temporary seat?

Frame Coating is either powder or 2K urethane. Either should stand up to the adhesive from Duck tape. For insurance, go to Home Depot and pick a "Goo Gone" (paint dept) put some on a swab and rub 50 times in a inconspicuous area. if the coating does not soften, you will be fine. I have used Goo Gone on my back to clean off road tar with no paint damage. It is great from adhesives too

You're right, Goo Gone is great. But, here is something scary....Carmex, lip balm, will remove sticker adhesive just as well; sometimes better. The "active" ingredient in Carmex is carnuba wax. I noticed years ago, while using Kit car wax, that carnuba wax worked very well for removing stubborn bugs from the paint.
