After coming off my Yamaha Raider with cancelling turn signals and having the 2015 S10 for this long I would still forget to cancel the signal now and then . The (self -Cancelling) STS system is a great thing ,I should of done a long time ago . No more having my buds flashing there hands at me.....

If they were plug and play I would most likely buy a set but I ain’t cutting any wires.
Ditto. I've owned bikes with that feature but still went thru the labor intensive process of signal-cancelling!
As an extreme comparison, I am completely turned off by the idea of ever owning a car that parks and/or drives itself. o_O

Funny, I am so looking forward to a 4 wheel vehicle I don't have to drive myself. I commute about 30k miles a year in DC traffic. I despise driving a car.

As for self cancelling signals, nice feature. My wife's new BMW has it. It's not as critical as heated grips, or cruise control, but it's only about a step below that on the list of things I could never live without.

A couple of folks have bought the OEM style connectors and made it into a plug and play unit. In retrospect, I wish I’d done mine that way, but I’ve had no issues with the cut wire method.

How do these aftermarket units work? Are they timer-based or do they actually have an inertia measuring unit that cancels when the bike goes upright after a turn?

Used to be on the STS mailing list so I called them once and told them I would buy one if they made it plug and play for the Tenere, but all they wanted to do was tell me it was very easy to install. I believe if they made them plug and play they would sell 10 times more than they normally sell.

Looks like a very nice neat job ! I really have next to no electrical skills but do know enough not to attempt something like that and mess things up.

What is the purpose of self canceling turn signals? Does the handlebar switch button fail on the Super Tenere? I have never heard of that problem.

Its just keeps you from having to hit the button to stop the turn signal....like in a car. You turn and the signal goes off. Its a convenience, nothing else.

You could argue a safety benefit. I’ve had cars pull a quick turn across my path only to notice that I’d failed to cancel my signal. They probably thought I was going to turn. Some here, believing they have perfect memory and skills, will claim they don’t need them. Good for them, that’s not me though.

Boy Jeff, Ain't that the truth!! I can see where the safety feature is a benefit. For me, I have never had self canceling signals on anything I drive. It's rare but does happen that I forget. A little tip to fatigue is when you are forgetting small things like turning off a signal switch. At that point it's time for me to call it a day.

How I try to reduce risk is by using the Smith System. On my Super Tenere I noticed I would "forget" just for the fact I could not see the indicators. The Smith System does not help when you cannot see! So I got a special bracket for my GPS. Problem solved!

Before blocking indicators:

After. Now I can see:
