It’s a piece of plastic that I cut out but I need to add stiffness by clamping those two metal brackets on top. As I said - all scraps.

Very clever. What is the diameter of the opening that accepts the fork collar? I want to build something similar.

Looks like a great idea to me! I used tie down straps and they pull the spring down easy enough but releasing them in a controlled manner is not so easy.

Good solution, glad it worked for you.

I like homemade solutions and I love to save money, but a fork spring compressor is about $20. Even a cheap ass like me can buy one!

I looked into the special one for the ES version. For $20 I agree, but in reality they’re closer to $80.

I still think you invest in the Race Tech compressor and simply purchase use some flat bar, hole saw, and a few nuts welded to it. Or a small piece of channel tapped and hole saw to fit.

I’ve made my own ES fork spring compressor tool. Wish I’d had it when I rebuilt my forks recently. Used a 12” length of 1/4” thick by 2” wide bar stock. At least I’m ready for the next time.

2015 ES model. I had this tool from my bicycle riding and bearing maintenance days. Was able to sneak this 14mm wrench between the fork spring and catch enough of the fork cap lock nut to remove and install the fork cap without using a spring compressor. I almost trim backed some of the plastic to make it easier on the install or if I had to service again down the road. Decided against it and was able to install with no drama. Your luck using this method may differ though but wanted to share in case it might a viable alternative method to using spring compressor for others. Cheers, Bob
