Anyone fill a factory side case with ice and beer? How does it work? I’m assuming the melting ice will leak out. Heading to Road America for races this weekend.

Each OE box will fit (24) 12oz cans in the carton. I have not yet attempted to ice them down. If the boxes are not waterproof, and they leak, it would be very easy. Just fill them with ice and let it melt away. If not, I plan on drilling a couple small holes in the bottom(s).
. . . . that expands when it warms in a closed container.

Interesting idea….the cases are not sealed to build pressure. Not sure I can get dry ice anymore. The kids around here were making dry ice bombs many years ago. It’s hard to find now.
can you use these freeze them in the fridge then put them in the pannier with the beer once defrosted no mess

Here's my DR650. I've been using the igloos for about 700 miles. I have the Moskomoto soft side panniers and used their mount system, mounted the coolers to their mount using rivnuts and some brace at the bottom. The rivnuts don't go through so they are still watertight. Perfect size for grocery sack, haven't tried the six pack yet but I'm sure they'll hold a few. Have hauled some pretty good loads without problem. Forgive the milk crate, that was the solution to transporting watermelons. The Igloos I think are advertised as 38l units. The hasps on the lid are not really needed at the moment but figured at some point in the future they might help in a spill. And with the moskomoto attachment setup the coolers can be removed from the bike and carried easily.

I don't think there's enough room in the OE cases.

I freeze bottles of water then intermix them with my cans of beer. Depending on the pannier, you might not get a whole 24 but.......

Since we are talking about the expansion of the frozen CO2….watch this video….(normally the wells are around 300/350 feet deep)…the water is usually statically level at 100/150 feet deep….and the technique of the dry ice is used to generate "pressure" in the depth filters and unclog them from calcareous incrustations. . . . that expands when it warms in a closed container.
'Cuz a guy's got to rehydrate.
Better than a Mentos in a soda bottle.
I think that "I" would want it to leak. If the ice melted and was still in the case, it's gonna get to sloshing. Depending on the amount/weight I don't know if you'd be able to feel it or not, but if it leaked away it wouldn't be an issue. But if leaking was a concern, I'd just use a trash bag.

A garbage bag would make so much more sense And be cheaper!

you could probably yank the gaskets if you were worried about pressure buildup, but i doubt it'd be a problem. those cases are more splash/rain proof than "watertight"
Can you get some closer pictures of the mounting of these. Genius idea!

I don't have any pictures at the moment. The coolers are $30 ea so it is hard to go wrong. It was just kind of a development of ideas as I went along, pretty simple. I am really liking the setup though, because a grocery sack fits perfectly inside. And it's either the truck that gets 12 mpg or the DR that gets 45 for resupply.
