Late last year I bought a used Terry custom seat from a forum member here who was a similar size to me and finally got a long ride in last weekend. It passed the comfort test with flying colors. No aches or pains at the end of a long day, whereas the stock seat would have had me squirming. I've tried Sargent, Lamm and Seat Comfort seats on my last Super Tenere and this seat is much better than all of them (the SC was the best of that bunch).

Terry is a great guy he made my wife and myself trip through Maine 3 years ago possible. Without his seat I don't think my wife would've handled the 8-11 hour days we were doing. I'm not feeling the need for a seat on the S10 like I have other bikes but I may still let him do his magic for her.

My butt likes to whinge and by the end of a long day ride it'd be complaining on the S10. Odd because the seat feels comfortable at first. I'm guessing it's a combination of the stock seat's sponginess and grippy top. The time it was happy would get progressively shorter on multi-day tours, a combination of the stock seat's softness and grippy material, which would tug at my skin with all the braking/accelerating. The Terry seat completely eliminated all complaints. Funny because I tried a Sargent (whose seats I loved on my 11GS and liked on my AT) as well as a Lamm and they were worse than the stock.

I will keep the stock seat on the bike for my commute and around town because it's a bit easier to get my feet on the ground at stops and it's waterproof. It'd also work better for spirited dirt escapades than the Terry seat because it's narrower.

Wish we could get them over here, but the robbers that go under the name of Her Majesty’s Custom and Excise would turn us upside down and clean out our pockets under the pretence of Import Duty!

Must be a way around that if you buy used. How could they know the value? I sold my AT Sargent seat to a Kiwi.

Terry was a pleasure to do business with, produces a quality product. I added a back rest by Utopia, in my mid 60’s, the additional support makes the cross country trips more comfortabl.View attachment 62369
You must be a big guy, I'm too forward to benefit from a rider's back rest. Had one on my Road King though and loved it.

The value of the contents must be stated and the import duty and tax are based on that. The Customs and Excise have the right to open any package or parcel and they charge a fee for opening to the recipient then add 20% tax on that too! I know this from experience!

So if you buy a used seat it will be next to impossible for them to determine its value as they sell for anything from $50 to several hundred.

That Terry Adcox seat does look very comfortable but I simply wouldn't buy one without doing a test ride first , I have ridden on a couple different aftermarket seats that had pretty rave reviews but after the test ride I was glad I hadn’t spent The money.

In principle that is a smart idea, but being overseas I took a chance on this used one because the seller was a similar size to me and I've read nothing but rave reviews about Terry Adcox seats. Worst case scenario I sell it on and get back my money that way. Did that for the Sargent and Laam seats I had previously tried.

Actually I should add Terry custom builds the seats for each rider, so it'd be next to impossible to test ride one he made for you before committing to buying it. But I've yet to read a complaint so it seems like a safe gamble, especially if you send him a spare seat pan so you can sell it separately when that time comes.
